@JWK seem to remember musing last year that the couple of varieties that are desperately slower to Flower and Fruit might be worth starting a month earlier than the rest? Can't remember which ones we were talking about now, and too lazy to dig my Sowing, Planting, Flowering, Fruiting notes out ...

Kristen, the late maturing varieties last year were: Amish Paste, Black Krim and Russian Black were 3 or 4 weeks behind everything else.

Are there any good guides on DIY grow lights on the forum anywhere? I did a quick search but can't find any (and I'm sure there was...:th scifD36:)

I'm finding it very tough not to sow anything...

Loofah, there are some good threads on here. For searching I tend to use google using the "site:" method, e.g. put in "site:gardenerscorner.co.uk grow light project" - it's better than the inbuilt forum search facility :)

Worth a read of the Cannabis Forums. Lots of good information there, and plenty of comparative studies (if not entirely scientifically rigorous ... "Those lights are far out man" :) )

Finally got around to placing my seed order today.

I'm going for my usual small/medium/large triumvirate of Gardener's Delight, Alicante and Beefmaster. I hesitated a bit over the Alicante, as they didn't perform very well last summer, but it was the first time I'd had any problems having grown them for many years, so I'm hoping last year was just a blip and I'm sticking with them.

I'm also trying something new this year, Rosella. The catalogue describes it as......
Unique deep pink, cherry tomato, tasting of a blend of raspberries, blackberries and other summer fruits.

Sounds interesting. Anyone else tried these before?

Yes. I don't eat tomatoes but use them in cooking - a lot. For cooking, I prefer Italian plum toms and can now buy them so cheaply that it's not worth growing them (26p-29p for a 400gm can).

Mrs Shiney loves to eat tomatoes but people are always giving us spare plants or their surplus toms. She has found that with a lot of the plants they're getting blight just before it's time for them to ripen
