Anyone read the tomato growing article in gw mag, Feb p94-95? It's the almost annual rehashing of growing outdoor vs pots vs bag.

think I'm going back to bags this year, last couple in pots have been less than stellar for me.

No I've haven't seen that article Andy. I suppose it depends how big your pots are vs gro-bags. With gro-bags, it's a good idea to mix in a bit of lime to reduce their acidity. Another trick is to double up, stack one on top of another, make slits in-between and plant your tomatoes very deep, into the bottom one, you'll get really good root growth and the bigger volume means the compost doesn't dry out so quickly.

I enjoy growing my own plants, using an electric propagator to get a bit of a start, but am thinking of getting a grow light for it as they tend to get a bit leggy. No idea what to buy though, without spending a lot of money, suggestions please?

There is a lot of choice Ariadae, I've got a T5 unit which is a fluorescent lamp system, cost about £90 from memory. You can make your own for a lot less, if I was buying now I'd go for a LED based system as they are much cheaper to run and don't throw out so much heat as traditional lamps. We have some threads I've listed here:

Sown my first tomatoes today, a few seeds of New Girl to try and get an early crop. They will go under my grow lights once germinated, and stay indoors till at least late April until the greenhouse starts to warm up.

Freddy, I grew loads of Maskotka last year out doors in Scotland,
Grew in the smaller Morrisons flower bucket, approx. two feet high, plenty of crop
