..... Has allowed me a window of opportunity to get in a few hours of work in the greenhouse and general "house-keeping" duties :)

I do like snow and we've not had too much of it, but I prefer my veggie growing more!

I'm all set now for the start of the growing season in 3 weeks time :D

Excelent Vince. Too wet to get on the soil here, but the frost has broken up the soil & hopefully the rain is filling all the gaps with the compost that I was spreading just before the snow.

Strawberries still flowering in the cold frame, but I think i've lost the globe artichokes. They dont look happy.

Brassicas sprang back to life as soon as the frost went.

Picked the last (frozen) peas yesterday. The idea of picking frozen peas straight from the garden made my daughter laugh.:hehe:

I managed to pull a few swedes but the parsnips are well and truely frozen in.

In the polyphene covered fruit cage, (covered it for the winter), I still have a few raspberries and lemons ripening :)

Mixed fortune with my sprouts, some plants doing much better than others but it looks like I will have home grown ones for Christmas.

I don't know how anything's doing :( Everythings under a foot of snow  We managed to dig ourselves out yesterday to get the car out and today we've dug a path to the log store so we don't have to ploughter through the snow. The house is hanging in great big icicles in front of the windows. When the sun shines on them all the refracted colour can be seen. It's like those etched glass windows in St Nicholas Church, Ziggy.

Sorry Vince, didn't mean to break up your thread.
I don't know what my leeks, sprouts, cabbage or kale will be like when this lot goes - sometime in 2011 I believe ! I'm not too hopeful

Blimey Alice, a foot of snow is going to take a bit of time to go. Its all gone down here except for the odd frost hollow. Have you taken a pic of the icicles ?

Just been out shovelling the leaves into a pile. Have cut down the globe artichokes & burried them in leaf mould, probably shutting the stable door after the groom has bolted though.

Suprisingly, the peas seem to have survived the cold. Perpetual spinage has been hard hit, but hopefully will pick up. Onions are fine and i've just staked the purple sprouting broccoli.

Yes, Ziggy, i've taken pics of the icicles, and all that snow, from inside and out. Just have to see how they come out.
My PSB is well covered in it too and I've no idea what is happening in the cold frames - foot of snow on top of them.
But at least the white stuff has stopped falling out of the sky and the sun is shining during the day, but it's still freezing.
As bad as anything I can ever remember.
Don't hold out much hope for my globe artichokes - unless that snow is acting as an insulating layer. Fingers crossed for a lot of stuff out there.

There's the icicles hanging in front of my dining room window, but they're all the same. My husband had to remove the icicles hanging in front of the door this morning so that we could out.
Shame the refracted colours didn't show up.
And we had more snow today - back to the chaos.
No gardening here, and little hope for my veggies, but we'll see - in the new year by the look of things :(
