Went in morrisons again this morning.
I had to remark to the lady on the fish counter that the recent mackerel that they have had have been the biggest and best I'd seen for many years.
Usually they are only slightly bigger than the sprats.

She said that they were coming from Cornwall.
Just wondering if because they can't export them to the continent,at the moment,
we are actually getting some of the better fish caught in our waters,,which have for years been going abroad.
Something is not as it was anyway.

Could be Pete, could be CV19. I'd love to see more of the stuff caught offshore here to hit the shops, it would be brilliant! :)

Well yes tend to think it has more to do with Covid than Brexit.
But just makes me wonder what has really been going on regarding our fishing.
Our fishermen say that they don't want EU boats in our waters but they do export most of the good stuff to the EU, I'm only guessing now.

So it kind of sounds like they want all the catch, but they don't want to sell it here.
If so I m not on their side.

Well, they'll sell where they can get the best price, I guess, pete. But, if we reject the EU's demands for access to our Fisheries, it will stop the French Fishermen selling the Fish to their ownHome Market, to the UK and other countries which might open up new markets to the UK Fishermen.:dunno::cat-kittyandsmiley::coffee:

Well. I know they will sell to the highest bidder, but fish is not actually cheap in this country.

So why do they sell most of it to the EU?

Which is pretty evident as they said recently without the EU market for their fish some are not even bothering to go out.

I sympathise with the UK fishermen, but if they just want to sell the best stuff to the EU then they lose my backing, and I know I'm only one.;)

Because the EU pay more than our supermarkets. They won't after the EU refuse to allow our fishing boats to dock though so the only tenable solution is that the fishermen sell to UK (maybe also greenland, nordic regions) which hopefully is all done sensibly (hohoho).

We're also an odd nation for fish. Despite having some of the best fish varieties in our waters, we're fixated, as a nation, on cod. Scottish languistine, cornish clams,... there's a huge list but we seem lazy and uninterested in buying different varieties so off to the EU they go :( I hope that the UK market becomes more adventurous and doesn't dig in, thereby killing off what little fishery we have left.

Well most, apart from things like coley, is farmed ,oh yeah you can get octopus and squid if you like that kind of stuff.
                Occasionally see mullet or hake.
The farmed stuff usually comes from abroad anyway, apart from salmon and trout.

I read that the EU had licensed Russian trawlers to catch fish off our coast. We're not talking trawlers as used by the UK fishermen - we're talking massive floating fish processing factories. If this is true, and I have no reason to doubt that the EU would do this, I would be very cross indeed.

Every day, our decision to leave the EU is proving to be the correct one.

I don't know about massive Russian factory ships in our waters.
But a massive Dutch one was reportedly fishing in the channel a few months ago.

We could sink them if we had any warships left!

Interesting that Nissan is backing the UK over EU it seems. They're closing the Barcelona plant in favour of the UK one...

Nissan aren't daft - if we go no deal - only they, Kia and Hyundai will be able to offer import tariff free vehicles - between the 3 of them they'll have the UK market sewn up.

I suspect the German, French and Spanish car manufacturers will soon be having a quiet word with Barney.
