If this fiasco over fishing burbles on in typical political school playground manner, is it plausible that we simply ras the fish from our vessels to a large roaming 'hub' vessel that returns to port?
Cut the French out completely, were only trying to offload there because they want it for their markets!

I'd rather see the fish sold here, might bring the price down.
Does it matter who catches it, if it ends up in France and its caught in British waters it still uses up our fish stocks.

As usual its has more to do with money than protecting the environment.

        Despite Brexit...

Royal Dutch Shell has announced a plan to move its headquarters to the UK as part of proposals to simplify the company's structure.

The oil giant will ask shareholders to vote on shifting its tax residence from the Netherlands to the UK.

The vote isn't until the 10th December and I guess there will be considerable political pressure before then, but I'm pretty sure the move will go ahead because of the big tax advantage for them. Netherlands have the 'withholding tax' which we don't. In essence, that is a way of getting the employer to tax employees in advance of the tax being due.

They are following in the footsteps of other giant companies such as Unilever.

            Or Because of Brexit?

In part it would appear to be the result of a push from an activist investor to break the company up into separate units. Over the years many companies have simplified their structure. They will still be listed in Amsterdam, London and New York. Shares rose 2% on the announcement.
This is also relevant "Earlier this year, a court in the Netherlands ruled that by 2030 Shell must cut its CO2 emissions by 45% compared to 2019 levels. The decision only applies in the Netherlands and Shell said it would appeal against the ruling."

I thought the Dutch prime minister went to parliament in 2017 to defend tax cuts. He was going to do away with the, 15% dividend "withholding tax". As it was never followed through, a u turn you could say, it resulted in Unilever making the decision to move and now probably Shell will follow suit.

Yes, that was when RELX (the UK part of the company was Reed International) decided to drop Amsterdam for London.

If Paul resigns - it has to be Article 16. We can't have a country in the UK without local government.

Brexit- a piece of positive news (for me, that is)!

We just travelled to Spain and after landing, followed the crowd towards passport control until a bored looking gentleman divided the herds into Alien and EU passport queues. We took the EU one and oddly enough, the gentleman asked first "EU?" , and then "which country?", as if he had a long history of Kamchatkians and VirginIslanders trying to claim EU status. As we landed in a UK plane, the EU queueing took about 30 seconds.

Coming home, the cosy Newcastle passport control had the familiar queue snaking back and promising a delightful hour of screaming kids in the sweaty hall.

We spotted the empty left hand side of the room and labyrinthed our way to the check point. We were the only passengers on the plane with a non- British passport and the stares from the queue, if not killed, at least caused severe internal scarring.

Learnings from the first Euro hols after B and C:
              • Travel and health insurance, mobile roaming, currency and paperwork are painful with UK residency, and I had a whiff that it was perhaps purposefully not made any easier. There definitely was a change of attitude when we whipped out our EU Club status- or perhaps the Eurovision song contest was to blame. :noidea:
              • Jumping the queues are great if you have a right kind of wrong kind of passport

Anyways, it's interesting to start experiencing how this kind of political game impacts personal, everyday life.

Apparently the UK were amongst the first to send weapons to Ukraine - because we didn't have to go through an EU approval process. NLAWS stopping Putin's tanks in (or should I say out) of their tracks as they approached Kyiv.

Probably changed to outcome of the war. Just saying...

Looks like Rishi is going for an approach where GB goods flow freely into NI where they stay in NI...Hang on...didnt this solution come up on this thread a couple of years ago...

I think it was the solution but for some reason it wasn't accepted.
I think that companies complained as it would mean two different types of packaging but that is just off the top of my head.
Not heard the so called new deal, but whatever it is it wont suit everyone.

Well maybe the media has moved on, to some extent , up until now, but its still ongoing just not top of the list anymore.
I just wonder how much the war in Ukraine has pointed out to both sides that we are actually allies and there are bigger fish to fry.
