        I have a six year old A.americana which lives outdoors unprotected here in the Cotswolds and is quite happy. Even the smallest pups survive. Minus six is the lowest that it has seen.
        Never seen the two large ones in the central reservation in Notting Hill Gate protected either despite seeing them frosted a few times.

          In Argentina we had agaves everywhere. Summer temperatures were typically rainy 35-40 degrees. But on winter we had minus degrees, and draughts of 4-8 weeks.
          Tremendously cold winters.
          The agaves loved it, as did the aloe veras lemon trees and orange trees. They were never covered, never looked after, just everywhere seemingly content with whatever came their way.

          I would not worry too much of the agave.

            Yes , they are here in parks and seem to get by ok year after year, i think they just need well drained soil so as not to get wet frozen roots too much . Thanks for your comment :)
