Any builders in the house?

I am clearly going to have to get this fixed, but am well aware that the default setting for most folks will be the "you need new soffits and gutters at the cost of ten grand" or something silly. Any ideas how much for a basic repair? Does BT have any liability here as it looks to me as though it is the guy-line for their pole that has pulled it off!

 

It is a PVC fascia and the best of it is we don't have BT. The house is rented, but the agreement I have is that I take care of minor repairs which I am hoping this will be. Surely if the line to the BT pole is severed and the fascia tacked back all will be well?

 

The block is concrete, so that should be fairly easy to tack back to and the BT cable can go - that is their problem, not mine. Ah well, I will likely have to give them a ring although I was trying to avoid that.

 

I'm not - if I were to get someone out to fix the fascia though, they would have the ladder to do so, or we could simply tie the blighter round the pole.

 

There is none missing - if that went back in toward the building, all would be fine. It is the same at the back where it ends on a block. Bear with me and I will get a photo

 

Comms connections are definitely up to us - we installed cable when we first got here and more recently when we were checking prices/services out, it was made clear to us that we would need a full new line putting in should we decide to change to BT, but again that would all have been our cost/decision. The line can go, and it does not support the pole in any way as there are many other lines that go off it - it was probably here for whoever lived in the house years ago.

 

I recommend getting quotes from mybuilder.com, I've used that site 3 times in the last year and had good experiences. What I find is only builders who are available will bid for the work so you don't get mucked around. All you need is to post the photos you have already taken. At least then you'll get some quotations so you'll know whether this really is 'minor repair' (you will be liable for) or should be passed on to the landlord.

The last job I posted on mybuilder .com cost me £300 for 2 men to take down a cast iron soil stack, it was half a day's work. So I would say your job might be a bit cheaper than that - £200 or there-abouts. Ask for builders who already have their own scaffold platform.
