Sometimes @Songbird people even start a sentence with a conjunction.

We've been to other shows in the past. I used to really like Hampton Court, but even that can be very hectic and crowded. The one we never seem to be able to get to is Malvern, it seems to sneak up on us every year and we're never organised enough to be able to do it.
We did try the GW one once, never again, my ankles still haven't recovered from those hideous boxes on wheels that every other person seemed to have.

Tirelessly drives me mad too. Everyone is always working "tirelessly". That's not physically possible.

I bought one at Tatton in 2007. Never very practical on bumpy ground and never big enough either when I was in acquisition mode at a good show or fair.

Still have it but it's in the garage and OH uses it to store wine bottles before they go off in bulk to the pile which will eventually become a bottle wall.

Quite agree @AnniD and @Obelix-Vendée but what really bothers me is when news readers never seem to stop ( verbally pausing) at the end of a sentence. It becomes just one long sentence to my old ears. I am with others when they talk about not being comfortable with lots of people and noise, it would wear me down very quickly.

I agree about news readers and announcers. They seem to have no idea about phrasing or intonation these days.

I can cope with noise and people in short bursts if I'm doing something interesting. I never found Chelsea noisy and the hordes of people were generally friendly and not pushy so, with patience and cooperation, everyone gets to the front. The only time I had trouble with anyone was the year I went with my Belgian scientists and was in a wheelchair following foot surgery. One lady in the crowd waiting to see the small courtyard gardens was very rude and unpleasant about the wheelchair but then somebody else told her off so that was quite amusing.

Don't get me started on punctuation! :nonofinger: My editor always seemed to find some mistake when I was careless.

Apparently Microsoft has something called Auto Space that inserts a space at the end of a sentence and before the punctuation mark. It is supposed to be able to turn that off. If I did that at school I would get a 'clip round the earhole'! That was never my excuse as mine was just carelessness.
A lot of them also drop the letter T when speaking.

There used to be complaints that there wasn't enough different sounding people from around the country making announcements on TV.
Must admit when you look at announcements from years ago everyone does sound terribly posh and unreal.

I'm not surprised that a young inexperienced gardener (in years, not knowledge), but who has youth, energy and enthusiasm in him has left the RHS.

I tend to steer clear of anything to do with the RHS now. I don't really understand how they can call themselves a charity when they do pompous things like the Chelsea Flower Show, charge extortionate entry fees to their gardens and plants in their shops.

Also getting David Beckham in to encourage younger people to garden is really short sighted. The guys 50 odd and now advertising air fryers! About 20 years too late on that one.

I hope you enjoy your visit @Allotment Boy and do let us know how you get on with a half day ticket. We might do Chelsea that way next year for my birthday. My challenge is that I just can’t cope with the crowds for too long.

And yes London plus for us getting there is expensive, it cost us north of £400 just for the show and train tickets.

One of the reasons we still live where we do, is because we qualify for the free travel pass, as we are still in a London borough. We pay in other ways ( like the extra money for the Olympics) but we know how valuable that is.
