I have the choice of either but not knowing anything about them wondered who would recommend which. Do they both do a similar job? i.e. Download the web and e-mailing. Download Music and/or books and games. Would appreciate some advice please.

Well I don't know much about the ipod 5 so I'm assuming it's almost exactly the same as the iphone 5 without he phone bit in which case it's mostly meant for music and games the kindle fire is more of an Ebook reader with a webrowser

The kindle fire , and I presume the ipod have a 7" screen . We got a Samsung 10" tab at Christmas - its amazing , full web Wi-fi access , email etc etc. Its a bit big for reading as an E reader, I think the kindle is better for this.

Hi Moyra. I have a Kindle Touch but only for e-books. However, I can go on-line with it and last April checked out GC whilst I was on holiday. But, I cannot advise you as I am quite techno-ignorant ... :heehee:

I guess it depends on what you actually need it for ... hubby is just configuring a laptop for me as I only use desktop ... that means I have to use one of these flat keyboards and I am a touch typist ... :rolleyespink:

Hi Everyone, I suppose what I am looking for is:

Something that has e-mail and internet facility with its on Wifi connection.
Something that I can download music and books on.
Something I can play games on.

I tried an ordinary Kindle before but because I do not have a hub at home it was not good because of the lack of Wifi. So whatever I buy has to have its on internet connection.

      Does that all make sense?

Nexus 7 I think would fit your requirements, I use mine for films, reading books, web browsing, email and lots more. I also have the samsung note 10.1 which is great if you want something bigger. Other option is the nexus 10.

You could go for an ipad but that is expensive or if you want a phone that does it all then a samsung note 2 is great. I am using that at the moment.

      Hope this helps.

Go with JulieD Moyra she is into IT and works with it
I have Kindle Fire and as stated it is mainly an E-Book reader, with wifi, email and browser as an addition only

Yes I have a Nexus 7 and they have just released the Nexus 7 3G so that would solve your internet problem however it would work out rather expensive.

if it must have its own internet connection then I don't believe either of the devices mentioned previously (ipod, kindle fire) have this...
