    The long leggy bits are the roots. Try to spread them out when you plant it.

    Many thanks for your quick and helpful reply.

    OK, the have gone into a very large pot, and I guess I have now got to wait for a couple of years before cropping.

    they may crop this year, but don't cut any off until next year

    BTW should the crown of those seedlings be below the soil level and by how much?
