Bearded iris

i`ve just been pottering around the garden today and noticed my beared iris has a few new shoots 2-3" is this normal? am worried about the winter etc... will it be ok i`ve never noticed before any advise would be great 0)

Same here. only mine are the dwarf varigated one.

As far as I am aware, most iris are as tough as old boots,so I don't think there is anything to worry about!

No problems - perfectly normal to see new shoots on Iris at the moment, both dwarf and standard varieties. Agree with Makka-Bakka tough as old boots in this part of the world.

 

Has anyone irises flowered yet? Nothing on mine so far..

Yes my dwarf iris started coming into bloom last weekend.

 

My dwarfs came and went months ago.

Iris japonica has started blooming over the last week................

 

Where are you Scooby-mas? This could make a difference to flowering times. It would be appreciated if you could put your area under your avatar please, it helps other members when trying to solve problems like this.

Quick picky of the irises take just now... Plenty off shoots, just no flowers yet... It had flowered this time last year..

 

Assuming they are dwarf Iris I reckon you'll see buds in a week or so.

 

After they've flowered, scooby-mas, it might be worth digging them up, dividing the rhizomes and re-planting them in nice, fluffed-up soil with a bit of general purpose fertiliser. The leaves should be cut in half to help them re-establish. They respond really well to this once every three or four years (two or three on sandy soil)

 

I'm in the midlands too scooby-mas , lots of buds on the iris here but only this one flowering so far, the buds seem to appear almost overnight don't they.
