What variety is that @Scrungee ? All my peppers are small and green, don't think I will get a single one at this rate.

I don't know the name, just that it's used by competition growers to produce peppers over 1lb

I had zero success with peppers, they are all green, despite having given them quite a lot of potting soil to grow in.
However, they are all outdoor, perhaps they are better grown in poly tunnels and greenhouses?

Thanks, next year perhaps I will try and make a mini greenhouse for a few plants, and see if that helps.

Good luck Aldo, as I said above I haven't got any ripe yet and it's been the best summer ever for sun and heat and mine are in a greenhouse so I'm doing something else wrong. This year I planted the variety "Ace" and tried "Jumbo Sweet" a few years without any success.

We need a recommendation for a good early ripening variety to stand a chance - any help please?

Ditto, my efforts to grow peppers doesn't even rate a mention:rolleyespink:. Everything (my toms, chilli, cucumbers and sweetcorn) grown in the greenhouse have all done spectacularly well except the damned peppers.

I have given up on box peppers I now grow Planet F1 a bulls horn shape, I have had good success with these they get to 6 or 8 inches long and are very tasty, I have two plants and have had loads of peppers, I am giving them to family and friends, I have had 30 to 40 per plant. I never got a crop like this with California wonder type peppers.

PS I do not grow peppers in the greenhouse as I find they are a white fly magnet.
I grow them to maturity in the conservatory well away from my toms. I grow them in pots so as soon as I see a whitefly I take them outside and hose them down.

Yes @sandymac my pathetic efforts produced not a lot but oh boy did the whitefly think they were marvelous. Perhaps i'd be better to admit defeat and resort to shop bought:frown:

Just for a bit of fun, I sowed seeds saved from some very long Tesco Finest yellow peppers and what every plant produced was very small red peppers.
