Is that the same as what we call "Quack" grass? If so, I landed up on hands and knees pulling it out.

    I do not envy you @Shaneoak !

I have been digging this grass out now since October, by hand (my choice) luckily most of the area has nothing growing so can dig, turn over and pull out the long roots however on a small section there are 3 mature sedum plants that are just beginning to bud. The grass is woven and tangled in with the sedum roots and grows up and through the crown of the plant. Today I had to lift the sedums to untangle and pull out as much of the grass as possible. I managed it but it took a long time. When you loosen the tangle of grass roots they tend to come out quite easily I find. Good luck :blue thumb:

That is couch grass and is the very devil to eradicate. If you hand weed and miss any tiny bit of those white underground runners, they regrow into a new plant. All I can suggest is you pull up the worse now then wait till all your spring bulbs are finished, then carefully fork the area over by hand. It would mean digging up your bulbs, you can replant them once you have all the couch grass out.

it's been like that for years. It was just a few tufts and i thought nothing of it as it blended itself in with the other longer stemmed plants eg Allium's. It's really bad around the Rasberry bush and i can't get my hand in between the Raspberry stems to get it out. I will purchase some of that stuff and apply it. I currently have Asiatic Lillies, Anemones, Crocus, Tulips, Alliums, Muscari, and Hycianth's. Have some Clandeula seedlings just planted too. Thanks

okay, thanks. I agree. It's a nightmare. I had no idea it was such a vicious pest. Is it native to the UK?

            There you go...Couch grass
I'm in the process of trying to eradicate it over 6000m2 :paladin: It's meant killing off the 'lawn', then waiting a year to see if it comes back. If (when) it does, it'll get treated again. Dreadful stuff!

Thank you @Sheal . There were a few tufts of it down the side of my house last year and I pulled them out. I'll keep an eye on that area to make sure it doesn't come back!

Sounds like the nightmare i have. It seems to weave itself through the plants you want to keep, which is what makes it so hard to get rid off! I wonder if anyone knows if it actually depletes the plant that it's woven through of nutrients and slowly starves/suffocates it?
