    To be honest, Oakapple, if your soil conditions are right then Roses don't need more care than other plant,:dunno: You didn't say whether you planted your Rose as a bare root or as potted plant, although I suspect it was bare root, either way it can take two or 3 years before the Rose is flowering and growing to it's best so patience, as in all gardening, is needed. Roses are long term investments and if you remember that like every living thing it needs care and food it will repay you. There aren't many plants in a garden which we can plant and forget and looking after plants, learning more about them and seeing them thrive is one of the pleasures of gardening.

        Very true Armandii, I must do more feeding of everything in future, I knew that clematis like feeding ( and loads of watering) but not that roses were so hungry too.Am more used to shrubs like photinias and other evergreens.
        There are other David Austen roses I have my eye on but wanted to see how this one does first, as they are expensive.
        I liked the pink, slightly peony sort of flowers on the SH wiseowl but my favourite colour roses are apricot coloured ones.

          @Oakapple

          Well, I have Climbing Rose "Bathsheba" planted under my Lilac "Madame Lemoine" which I'm training to climb through the Lilac. Is that the sort of colour and type you're thinking of??:scratch:

                  @Sandy Ground

                  What's the mixture, SG, of Roses? Modern?, Old Fashioned? Climbing?, Rambling?, Shrub?, Repeat flowering?, and which one, (hard question:heehee:) is your favourite and why?
                  I've just done a mental count of my Roses and got to 25 of different varieties if I count Rose "The Pilgrim" which is on order but I was notified about a delay in the delivery:dunno::wallbanging:

                    There are only two climbers, both Flammentanz. There are some Hybrid Teas. Originally, they came from a place you will know well, @ARMANDII Fryers. There are some Bourbon roses, locally sourced from what has become my favourite place. The last ones I put in were Roadrunners (from Kordes in Germany). There are a couple from David Austin as well, but again, locally sourced. Other than the climbers, all are repeat flowering, and most, not all, highly scented.

                    I cant say any one is my favourite reallu. The climbers are glorious when they are in bloom. There are two red Remembrance. Their colour is stunning in front of the thuja hedge. If I had to choose just one, it would probably be one of the bourbons, Honorine de Brabant.

                    I'll try to dig out photos, and post later. If I can remember something for more time than a goldfish! :biggrin:

                      Indeed I do, Sandy, it's just outside Knutsford in Cheshire about 12 miles from me. I often have a look around when I'm heading for the gardens of Arley Hall nearby but, on the proper country road to Arley, there are at least 6 or 7 commercial Rose growers, so getting there can take time:dunno::heehee:

                        You must pay me a visit, and I'll take you to my suppliers. In normal years, I usually get an invitation to go there in early July.

                        As for photos, and apologies for my poor photographic skills. First off, the climber...
