:snorky: I wish I could @HarryS. I don't like football but I could name a few of those faces. Mr S was actually a good footballer I'm told, although it wasn't his preferred sport. He had free entry to the big match by the way. :)

At one time the BBC either TV or steam, [radio] as it was so often called IMO provided a good service. To mention but a few of what I classed as benefits. Great documentaries. Excellent speech and grammar. Even now it bugs me when the word, 'contribute' is used and some other words.
The selection of programs. Really! what choice do we have. Sport seems to be the boss. The BBC is big enough etc. Why not have acannel devoted to sport. Why all these antique programs. Why so many weather forcasts?. I like countryfile, but as a member has hinted, even this is fast becoming a bore. I remember late night programs like Edgar Lustgarten's crime series. Now late night shows consist of an audiance with..... and there sits an audiance laughing at complete utter disgust. Like Jim Davidson in a sketch. The pole dancer. Ummy yummy, lickin the pole. How distgusting, then other so-called comedians, the swearing and utter obscene language.

Sadly the law of the land says you must pay a licence fee to be able to recieve a radio transmission. This has now been extended to include, being able to watch tv on your computer etc.

I tend to make a point of watching the evening news on BBC TV, then if I have time I watch chan. 10/19/20. Yes I have taken in by sheer accident the odd Gardeners World program. I have come to like Monty, he's a good entertainer, gardener ?? On this subject. Why the hell doesn't the BBC serach its realms of producers and directors etc and pich those best qualified in the subject. Here in London. The news. We get some coverage of world news. Then London News. Oh No the same again. Why can't if such a program be put out. Why can't we learn about what happened locally. Mres Smithh had a right old barny with er next door etc.

That's what the grapevine is for.
I stick to Radio 4 and Radio 3 with the occasional excursion to DAB and World Service through the night; can't be doing with the moving pictures, flashing lights and noise that passes for TV.

Don't be silly! He was replaced by Patrick Troughton and then Jon Pertwee (why can't he spell his first name properly?).

I've got a photo, somewhere, of me with Jon :rolleyespink:. He was at home in Majorca (met him, twice, in the Sunday market at Pollensa). He dressed quite strikingly. One time he was wearing a long black cape and wide brimmed, black, Cordobes style hat (just like the Sandeman emblem). The other time it was very similar but in white! Everyone else was casual.

He was very nice, friendly and polite man.

I sat on David Bellamy's knee when I was a kid - he was opening a new garden centre in my home town. Whatever happened to him?

The best Dr.Who was Christopher Eccleston closely followed by David Tennant and Tom Baker. Anyway, nuff said on that.

There is some good stuff on the Beeb - I'm hooked on Last Chance Lawyer NYC (even though I still cannot believe that it's not a spoof), Black Earth Rising is quality and I look forward to more of Line Of Duty, Luther etc.
Beck starts soon on Beeb 4 which is always good.

As far as scheduling goes, they have to chuck tat on at peak periods to get the numbers. If the Beeb was not under so much pressure from the powers that be to compete in the ratings war we might see an increase in quality. But whilst ministers seems hell bent on bringing the license fee to an end then quality will always suffer.

Just had a reply from them - basically, it is all down to a lack of money. But they can still afford to pay the likes of Graham Norton a small fortune.....

We like Line of Duty and Luther. Will have to check out Last Chance Lawyer NYC and Black Earth Rising, if they are in a similar vein. Not on the Beeb here though.

I scrolled through the 300 odd channels last night, nothing I wanted to watch so I ended up watching the 'kids' In the night garden, how sad? I did enjoy it as it reminded me of my grandaughter (when she came to live with me) watching this with me.

Whilst £650 000 is a lot compared to what ITV pay it's peanuts. Ant and Dec £10 000 000 each! Please, at least Mr.Norton is funny. And Gary Lineker £1 500 000? All he does is talk about soddin' football!

                              Not really.
Last Chance Lawyer NYC is a reality/documentary show. Just really funny/bewildering/eye-opening. Black Earth Rising is a drama that was written by Hugo Blick who wrote one of my all time favourite series (BBC again) - The Shadowline.

I haven't watched TV in over a year, only listened to Radio 4, plus the occasional World Service programme whilst driving in the early hours.

We would have ditched our TVs but our TV watching daughter is now back home for a year before going back to uni for a Masters.

Whenever I hear his name now, all I think of is the promotional blurb leaflets from Haven Holidays sites, advising on how he was involved in making them 'green'.

I also remember seeing hundreds of those pamphlets in the (landfill, not recycling) waste bins on their sites, together with glass, metal cans, newspapers, etc. And last week not every bin compound had a recycling bin, and in some of those that did, they were innaccesible behind the landfill bins.
