Our local Sainsbury's does it the logical way. All the disabled spaces, about 20, are across the front of the entrance. Parents and Toddlers are in the main car parking area, the other side of the road into the disabled area. Not only that, the p&T spaces back onto the wide footpath down the middle of the car park so the toddlers are protected on one side. :blue thumb:

I think you will also find that most car seats for the very young children are now part of their pram/ pushchair systems and need removing and clipping on the their wheeled frames. Obviously more room is required to carry this out safely and to ensure other nearby cars aren't damaged. Just a thought.:)

      Hi,

I'm just thankful not to be disabled.

      Kind regards, Colin.

I think you will find we all need more room these days, cars are much wider than they used to be but parking spaces are pretty much the same size as they were in the 1950s, only disabled and parent and child spaces are bigger.
With my dodgy knee I cant bend my right leg very well, so I need to open the car door pretty wide in order to get my leg in.
How often do you come back to your car to find someone has parked the biggest range rover or pick up truck next to you, and you can't open your door more than a couple of inches?

Parking in this country needs a rethink, pretty much like most things regarding vehicles.

I guess they'd be upset if you opened your door 2.25 inches.

Bless you Colin. To look at me, you'd be surprised. I'm registered disabled. Gross degenerative disease of the spine. Val bought me mobility scooter some years back. Honestly. It caused me more pain etc. Said scooter is now rotting away in the store. I push myself and try to ignore overcome the painful feeling that. Forgive me. Like having a broomstick up my backside and thumping the base of my skull at each step.

I go to Sainsbury's regularly because they revamped their car park. The parking spaces are still the same size but they have put another line about a foot away from the parking one and that is to give each car extra room. It's like a smaller version of the disabled or parent and child spaces. It works fairly well even with my wide car and needing to open the door wide enough because of my bad knee.

                      Hi,

Your health problems must really drag your spirit down Mike and push you towards depression especially after leading such an active life; you certainly have my sincere sympathies.

People these days are quick to judge; just because a person is standing upright they are fit and well? Bron and I have friends who are blue badge holders and have a Motability car; they do their best to hide the fact the car is through Motability due to the many adverse comments from family; friends and strangers; they are treated like lepers. Genuine disabled people need all the help they can get not only a car but also financial help; many have paid a lifetime dues only to then fall ill through no fault of their own; I'm sure they would happily give up the car and benefit in order to be healthy. When I see people parking in a blue badge space displaying the blue badge I think how lucky I am that I can park away from store entrances and be fit enough to walk.

What happened to live and let live whilst doing a good turn; many people these days will do you a bad turn and think nothing of it; greed and selfishness generally rules; it starts with the government and works down. Bron and I would always rather give than take; what we have we've worked for; few people are happy.

I'm sure you'd prefer a big powerful motorcycle to an invalid scooter any day Mike; good luck my friend. :dbgrtmb::dbgrtmb::dbgrtmb:

                      Kind regards, Colin.

Many thanks Colin for your comments. I laughed heartedly at your last sentence. I'd have to get you to fit stabalisers to a bike now.
No, I can't say I am depressed in any way due to my present standard of life. My motto is. There is always someone far worse of than me.

Amanda is registered disabled, constanly on crutches. Under the old DWP ratings. She had been granted hih rate mobility for life. Ian Duncan Smith put paid to that and bought about hardship to many disabled folk, when he introduced a new setup. She lost her full benefit and her motability car. Not a day passes when she doesn't phone me or come and visit. She even insists on being at my side for hospital treatments etc.

                          Hi,

You're most welcome Mike; every day should have at least one laugh in it; my laugh usually comes from the weather forecasters.

                          I think you're more advanced than stabilizers Mike so how about this for Christmas;

Once you've run it in you'll get 4 MPG out of it; ideal for trips to the hospital and surgery?

Seriously though anyone with health problems has a rough time of it; I was ill for the first 57 years of my life; in 1982 I had a major operation due to Crohn's Disease; in and out of hospital and nothing but terrible health all because I was wrongly diagnosed; Bron found the cure; I'm food intolerant regarding dairy products; since 1982 and up to now I've known what decent health is about.

I don't believe in gyms or jogging etc thinking these to be nothing more than keeping up with the Joneses; I get lots of assorted exercise around home and as long as I remain busy I hope bits don't start to fall off. We have a friend who goes jogging every day; we've seen our friend out jogging and she never looks to be enjoying herself; her husband now has trouble walking due to excessive jogging wearing his knees out. Rolls Royce engines wear out if pushed hard enough. No offence to anyone enjoying gym or jogging; I'll continue as I am mixing workshop and gardening etc.

We have a limited choice of government Mike; my take on politics is Tories rob us and keep it; Labour rob us and give it away. Ian Duncan Smith as you say ruined many lives; pity someone disabled wasn't put in charge but who in politics fits the job?

I'm surprised I don't suffer from rising damp or wet rot; there are always people worse off; what about all those better off?

Good luck Mike to you and your family.:dbgrtmb:

                          Kind regards, Colin.
