Not a fan of Thursday Murder Club, they're a bit gentle and Agatha Christyish for my taste. Nor Jack Reacher something not really believable to my mind.
Harry Bosch by Michael Connelly is more to my taste, as is Ian Rankin's long running Rebus series and I'm getting into Mike Herrons Slow Horses books, not as good as John le Carre by a long stretch.

I’m ‘old’ and I enjoyed them. Yes, they didn’t shy away from some potentially sensitive topics, but I thought they were handled extremely well. Probably the older the reader, the more they can relate, and there were some well balanced and contradictory viewpoints explored without lecturing. My daughter recommended them to me, having bought a copy of the first book as an impulse purchase, before starting a long train journey with nothing to read.
Anyone else a fan of Jackson Brodie in the novels by Kate Atkinson?

Ah yes, Jackson Brodie. I enjoyed the first few, but again, they become very formulaic, like 'pot-boilers'. I gave the last one away before I'd finished it.

I like some sand in the oyster of my reading. Currently it's provided by Joanne Harris's 'Malbry' series of four books: 'Gentlemen and Players', 'Blue Eyed Boy', ' A Different Class' and 'A Narrow Door'. Psychological thrillers, but written by a true wordsmith.

@Selleri - meant to say 'Thank You' for starting this thread! Always interesting to discover other people's reading preferences, and maybe broaden our own often 'safe' choices.

Thanks @Tinkerton I was looking for something to read and preferably a new (to me) author. Have just downloaded Gentleman and Players to my kindle

Am hoping to catch up with the Thursday Club but have yet to find the latest in the charity shop

Your library should have it ... or be able to order it in from another branch, @Butterfly6. I read 2-3 books a week, but only actually own about a dozen. I like to squeeze a little value out of my extortionate Council Tax. ;)

We all need to make use of our local libraries, I think. 'Don't use it - lose it!' as the old adage goes. Too many branch libraries have closed down.

I've recently joined the library here and also have access to Borrowbox now. Amazed at the "free" mags and papers I can read! I'm an interior design as well as gardening nut and used to subscribe to these mags ......:rolleyespink:

I don’t go into town so often now, so rarely get ‘real’ books from the library. However, I am also able to access BorrowBox through the library website, and always have a few books on the go. I too read about 2-3 books a week, but only own a few! I have almost the complete works of Iain M Banks ( and his Iain Banks books) several of them signed. Ditto with Jack Reacher, used to be reliable suggestions for Christmas presents from the children, and something to look forward to on Boxing Day, with feet up and a glass of Baileys! I did buy all the Richard Osman books, albeit on half price offers, a big sign of approval from me!

I like Michael Connelly and Ian Rankin as well as the more "gentle" detective novels. Some years ago, a friend recommended Belinda Bauer's books - a good read IMO. There are so many crime novels these days - series or one offs - hard to keep up with them all.
Always been an avid reader of practically any subject and fact or fiction. I've cut down my "library" of hardback and paperback books ( only 200 to 300 now !! ) but have almost 200 on my Kindle. Presently re reading many of them

My favourite author is Robert Goddard. He has written 35+ books and I’ve read them all at least 3 times each. New one coming out in June. I am No.1 in the library queue. :hapydancsmil:

I’ve just downloaded a Robert Goddard to my iPad library! I’ll give it a go.
Just finished two books by Amor Towles. Very unusual and interesting. I must have seen him recommended somewhere, but can’t remember where.
This is a great thread, @Selleri. I do struggle find to find new authors to try out, so this is really useful.
