Camellia

Hi could anyone tell me why my camellia bush buds every year but when it starts to flower it just seems to stop and the flowers die.they never seem to come into full bloom.

 

Hi @CLAYBUSTER the flowers look a bit brown at the edges. If your camellia is in a draughty place, the cold winds can cause the flowers to die off - and it's been pretty nippy the last couple of days. It may be better moved to a more sheltered site if possible. Sometimes the way wind moves around the garden can surprise you, and you may think it's a good site when it's not.

 

I've had similar in the past, its a fungal problem, best if you spray with a fungicide before the buds open.

hi, thank you for your reply. to be honest its been ok for about 5 years , bloomed really well , but the last 2 years it has gone like this. do you think i should cut it right back ? it is really a bit big to move. thanks again

 

I'd listen to @pete instead! Sounds a good possibility.
