I have a mate who I've known most of my life. The poor lad has no family to go to for christmas dinner (he has family, and he gets on with them, but for reasons undisclosed to me he is never invited to them for christmas dinner). So I invite him here if its my year to do dinner (we sort of rotate among the family). He's been my mate for so many years I just didn't even consider he might think about formalities, yet he brought us gifts. It was a really nice gesture, but to be honest I felt a bit awkward about it because he'd clearly spent more than a token amount. He'd bought me a CD album (ok, probably only a tenner but still that's more than 'token', the wife some smelly girl stuff, but the lad got a radio controlled scale model of a VW Golf GTI. In total he must have spent easily £50, that makes for an expensive christmas dinner.

No clue ;) That makes for a dear friend who a) appreciates your friendship; b) appreciates the dinner; and c) is eager to re-live his childhood playing with *your* son and the remote controlled car :hapydancsmil:

Sorry, I'm puzzled now. I'm not sure what's expected of me.

In situations like that the best thing to do is just thank them - very graciously. :) :blue thumb: You should never feel obligated or embarrassed.

A similar procedure to when someone pays you a compliment. An immediate and gracious thank you is always the best. Unfortunately, a lot of people get embarassed with receiving compliments.

Basildon Council say no Christmas wrapping paper in the recycling bag. I did get some flowers from my granddaughter and her two foster brother and sister just before Christmas which was nice and Steve is still nagging me as to what I want for Christmas. I did tell him his company was all the present I needed.

I trust you have all had a good Christmas and I wish you all the very best for New Year 2013. God bless you all. :wub2:
