I've got some in the ground, but I find, in general, flowering is too late for me, so tend to grow in containers these days.
I dont really have any good sunny hot borders, I've gone too mad on trees and shrubs over the years.;)
So a lot of shade in mid summer.

Hi @Loofah, did you know the National Collection of Cannas is on our doorstep and they are having an open day this bank holiday weekend?

        http://www.hartcanna.co.uk/

I went last year and can certainly recommend it, I was the only one there for a while and had a personal tour - they are a mine of information.

I could walk there! I had no idea!

I think I've visited once but the place looked derelict so never went back.

Their open day is in farnborough according to the website but might give it a whizz but pretty busy weekend. Now I know I'll make an appointment to see them

          Thanks John, superb info!

Yes the Open Day is held at a private house in Farnborough where Keith the owner lives, not their nursery at Bisley.

Narr, the trees tend to be unusual stuff I've grown from seed way back, I do give them a real good prune .every other winter.
Besides, saves me from having to look over into the neighbours gardens.

My Canna altensteinii are producing a bumper crop of seed this year, only harvested about 20% so far but must have around 50-60 seed already, 31 coming in one pod!!!!

Its nice to have seeds to share, but I find my altensteinii produce so much rhizome that seeds don't seem to be necessary.

@PeterS , same here Peter . My Cannas all produce very large rhizomes . I can obtain ,at the minimum ,4 good plants by dividing the rhizome. Enough to donate to friends and family :blue thumb:
