    Yes, cannas and sun...like strawberries n cream. Cannas are meant to shine in the sunshine. Got a couple flowering now...in the sun....and will post a picture when a hydrangea in front looks its best in a day or two :)

      Another thought Pete, in the shade Stuttgart is likely to lose its variegation!!

      I'm not sure about that,:scratch::smile:
      The variegation appears to be pretty much set as the new leaf forms.

        I've been kind of experimenting for years, but there is always something that comes along that is new.

        I've got Stuttgart, on north side of house, and edges of leaves are a bit crispy too. A shame because the variegation is lovely. But I also get the same trouble with common plants like heuchera lime rickey nearby- it goes crispy until the T.rex grows enough to shade it.

          The leaves go crispy on my C.altensteinii (which is in a pot) as well. Bit of a bugger really as with them being so large it is really noticeable.
          C.paniculata doesn't suffer but it has been in the ground for a couple of years now so the roots must be pretty deep and moist now.

          Hi @Verdun - yes, I get good foliage for a short time either side of full summer. Ah well.

            An update On my canna in pond experiment.
            I took the Cleopatra out after a few weeks, it was not happy, it flowered but grew no new roots and was slowly fading away.
            On the other hand "wyoming" has grown really quite well and I dragged it out today and cut the pot off of it.
            It was making lots of new root and rhizome.

              I've had a seed grown C.altestienii stood in a bucket all summer and the pot needs cutting off of that one. It is well and truly solid. It bloomed, although not brilliantly, but that is certainly progree compared to previous years when it has only bloomed very late in the greenhouse.
