For the first time ever I've got a Frogbit flowering and what a lovely little dainty flower it is :)

The photos a little blurred as I've only just taken them in failing light, I'll try and get a better one tomorrow, but I just had to share :)

Sorry to be a bit repetitive :snork:, more Frogbit flowers, clearer photos this time :)

they are lovely wee flowers aren't they? they look paper thin. I've now got water milfoil, water soldiers nymphodies pentata(??) in my barrel, along with 13 snails and my (still non flowering) pygmy water lily so its coming together, maybe I should get something like your frogbit too. can I ask what the wee green stuff is that's floating on the surface? thanks

Hi Dixy, the little green stuff is just common or garden duckweed, it wasn't put in there it just appeared as it often does when you introduce other plants. It can be quite invasive, but easily controlled in a small body of water :)

My bucket today - well I can no longer see any water, everything is romping away and thriving, the frogbit are flowering, the water lily is still flowering - the 6th flower bud has just popped up, the milfoil has spread without being invasive, all in all I'm still very happy, ultimately some thinning is going to become necessary but for now I'm enjoying it :)

You never know Dixy, after 5-6 flowers I thought mine had finished but it has just produced two more flowers :) As you say though if its producing plenty of healthy leaves it should flower well next year :)

well Bilbo, fingers crossed, I'm desperate to see a water lily in my barrel, I'm out there every morning, scanning it for buds!!! If it even produced one I'd be more than happy!

Update....no massive changes, the frogbit is still flowering and the waterlily has just popped up yet another flower, must be in to double figures now - its been amazing this year :)

Just the odd sign too that the things are slowly starting to die back, the older leaves on the waterlily for example are looking a little tired and starting to 'yellow' a bit :)

Been a while since I updated this thread now I have a wildlife pond, but I've still got it and its looking good at the moment. There's a little too much duckweed but that's a simple task to scoop out, there are 3 water lily buds already and the milfoil is doing well :)

Looks ruddy brilliant, I'm going to try doing the same this year. Could you use a terracotta pot?

Clay pots aren't completely waterproof and absorb water so while it's not impossible it's not as easy as using a large plastic container. You'd have to line the Clay pot with a plastic liner to make it completely waterproof. Also during the Winter during a cold spell the water might freeze and expand cracking the pot, so you might have to move the pot into a frost free area.:dunno::snork:
