Nice wheels FC but I'd never have another black car by choice. They look the bees knees when they're clean but abysmal when they're not.:)

I doubt it will be a black one @Sheal - I agree that they are a nightmare to keep looking in good shape. I would quite like a silver or dark silver one, but I am more interested in the car and the spec sheet first.

The funny thing is, for the first time ever, I am near on 100% certain that I will be having another car of the same make as my existing car, and am pretty set on the model and variant I want - - - in the past, there has generally been four or five makes and models on my shortlist.

I must be getting old.....

The thing is, if you find something you like and are comfortable with why bother changing. :)My car hunting is now on hold until later in the year, replacing my boiler recently diminished the car fund.

Hate shopping for a new car. the one I have now, is paid off, and about 10 years old, still planning to keep it for another 5 years. It has not caused me any issues, knock wood.

I'm hoping ours will keep going for a few more years (we also have a Mazda2) until we retire. At that time the plan is to have just one car, something capable of towing a 'van', but also good for everyday use (economical). I see Ford have just introduced a new Mondeo which fits the bill (diesel version) :)

Freddy, when it comes to changing your car you may need to check which diesel version it will be. The EU have brought in/are bringing in rules on the emissions on diesels. In a few year's time it may affect the tax and/or where you can drive. If you intend to buy a new, or newish, car then you should be OK.

The more emission efficient the car the lower the tax may be. I don't think you drive in towns a lot but the local authorities will be able to add a surcharge if the car isn't one of the more efficient ones.

It's all something to do with (I think) nitrous oxide and particulates

I heard the government had intentions of phasing out cars that run on diesel.

Yes and no - its the old, sooty ones that they want to phase out; the more modern Euro-6 cars should be fine.

The model I am looking at uses Ad-Blue to clean the exhaust emissions - - I have seen this technology in operation on a larger scale at work, and it seems to work just fine. I've even heard it claimed that the air coming out of the exhaust is cleaner than the air going into the intake.... but that is probably a bit of an exaggeration

Thanks for the input @shiney and @Sheal . I was thinking I'd get one that was maybe two years old, when the time comes. I obviously need to consider it carefully at that time.

Just to back up Fc's comment on this. The EU are discussing the topic and expect to come to a decision in 2016 but they're likely to let the older diesels phase out (with, maybe, some additional pollution charges) and make all manufacturers comply with the Euro-6 regs.

Wow, I don't think the engine is even broke in by that time. Keep mine usually 12 to 15 years. maybe this one will make it to 20 years. So, far, knock wood, no issues. Its about 10 years old now. I usually select the next by reading consumer reports, and only buying a used one with little mileage.

Ah Victoria, I had a Peugeot convertible called Leo! He was a gorgeous boy, he drove beautifully & was so comfy! He had major roof problems & he had to be sold on  I really wish I still had Leo especially when the sunshines . I've now got Bradley, a blue Astra SRi he's a lovely boy too!! He can be very fast but most the time we poodle along!
I'm not a great car fan if I'm honest as long as I can get to & from where I need to go that fine with me. I generally keep my cars for quite a while, at least until they start costing a lot of money in repairs, whilst there's plants, hens & handbags in the world I won't spend money on cars!!!!!! :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
