    Hi,
Does anything know anything about illnesses they get and their treatments. We have two black rocks one of which has gone down hill rapidly in the last few days. Her face is visibly puffed up she just stands still and passes bright green liquid poo. We took her to the vet who didn't know what might be the cause but gave us some antibiotics. We've administered them and syringe water (hourly) and weetabix mashed in milk into her mouth as she will not feed or drink herself. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

    Andrew

    I wouldn't like to guess.

But, I would like to ask: how is she doing now? Have the antibiotics worked?

    Hi,
Thanks for asking; she rallied a little Tuesday and looked on the mend Wednesday morning but then died that afternoon - I hink her heart gave out. It's a shame, she was a lovely bird

So sorry to read that, Andrew :frown:

Chickens can be such characters and they worm their way into your heart and leave a little gap when they go.

Will you be getting another to keep your surviving one company?

Yes; the poor girl looks lonely without her partner in crime. We'll see what's available this weekend

Yes, they do suffer from loneliness, Andrew.

With that in mind, I would suggest you buy another pair so you have 3 in total: only if you have the room, of course (and funds, obviously). That way, thinking into the future, if you should lose another one, at least you still have a pair.

Just seen this thread....so sorry to see this Andrew:sad:....Apart from the obvious loneliness from your other chook is it otherwise in good health?.....there are so many diseases chooks encounter and many are very contagious ....it's a shame the actual cause of death wasn't known just to be on the safe side....that's the only thing with chickens ,in many cases from onset of any health problems they go down hill rapidly....if your other bird looks in good health i'd go with "M" 's suggestion...go on get another 2;):blue thumb:

Hi Loli, thanks for your message. The other chicken looks in great health, apart from a slight pinkish flush in her feet which I put down to the weather getting colder. We thought we'd give it just a few more days to be 100% sure its not catching and buy something on Saturday.

That's a good plan, we'll run with it
            Thanks
