Really great news, thanks @Marley Farley. I met them at Bath Market last year and bought my partner one of their chilli sauce making kits for Christmas - potentially a mistake, in hindsight, as he is now producing litres of the stuff and I have zero tolerance for even mildly spicy foods :rolleyespink:

I was sitting this morning having my usual double espresso to kick-start my day. The kitchen door was open behind me, as it usually is. I didn't know where one of our cats was, but wasn't unduly concerned, as even though our rabbits are in the kitchen, she's never demonstrated any aggression towards them and if she did, they would scrabble in a panic and I'd hear it.

Ten minutes later, I wander into the kitchen and over to the sink to rinse my coffee cup. Only then do I see the cat, crouched over the chilis with a look of guilt on her face. She had chewed about five of them. I picked her up and as I did so, she extended her claws into another three pots and they got lifted up with her, before she retracted her claws and the pots fell down, spilling the earth out and breaking the stems of the seedlings.

All in, she has probably destroyed about a quarter of the plants.

        I am not happy.

If she has broken the stems then just put the root ends in compost and they should grow again.

Maybe it's fate that you grew so much more than necessary

Put a bunch of straws sticking up in the soil between the seedlings. That should help discourage further fur tleing... :)

Well done @CanadianLori They should start moving OK now.

I'm going to pot ours on now, from their 3" pots, as some of them have just got their flower buds on and their roots are playing around out of the bottom of the pots.

I've never bothered to pollinate the chillies as they're self-pollinating. :) I don't know whether it speeds them up at all.

I just pollinate them when they are inside, as you say they are self pollinators so just a light brush with a cotton bud is fine. Apparently late afternoon is the optimum time for pollen, you can see it falling off the flowers in the sunlight. As soon as the plants go outside I leave it to the insects to do my work.
