Now I think I should know this but am doubting myself today  The 12 chilli plants I have in my first greenhouse have all finished flowering, all have some red chillies on them and a fairly decent harvest of between 20-30 chillies per plant. All 12 plants are in pots. In my head I now let them dry out completely between watering and only a weak feed of Tomatorite once a week or maybe less. Can anyone direct me on this please? It must be the heat (is my excuse hahahaa ). TIA.

      Hello all,

I grew Mammoth Jalapeños and also Goliath Jalapeños. The Mammoths are being picked at the moment and the Goliaths are a few weeks behind. My Shishitos are producing many pods and we've had a few meals already from them. The Birds Eyes are fruiting well but they are always the last to get picked as they are late fruiters.

Huge Mammoth Jalapeños (mint box for scaling).

Shishitos, normally eaten green after pan frying.

Seems to have been a good year so far.

My 12ins long Ring of Fire has begun to turn red and the 2nd fruit is growing away nicely. All of the other plants now have lots of flowers so I should have plenty to pickle in vinegar and some to dry.
I give my plants a daily shake and leave the door open near them for the breeze to blow the pollen around for pollination.

Our bequinhos that survived indoors are doing really really well. They lost all their leaves in spring when I put them out but theyve more than recovered and are zooming!

Our 2nd year cucamelons are also doing well, seems they dont start growing till the nights are warm. Im not sure its much improvement from the first year though, but the fruit are notable more cucumbery and less sour. I suspect the tubers are just storage vessels for drought and cant actually regrow if isolated from the stem material, the two times we tried to overwinter them out of the soil they died quickly, but this winter we just took the whole pot in and trimmed it to the bottom of the stem.

Our regular cucumbers are doing okay, squashes too, though one is determined to outgrow the garden and is already 3m tall, only setting female fruit at the end. I think we will need to trellis it on our hedge or something cause the bamboo sticks wont hold much more weight.

Unfortunately the "Havana Gold" baccatum seeds never gave me anything, perhaps there was one in the lot that died in february but the new ones I sowed, the last of the seeds, never germinated. Grr! No baccatum on our patio for 2025.

Does anyone have any baccatums they could recommend? I got havana gold because its supposed to be low heat but still fruity.

It snuck in there. It's a ring of fire! I've been hopelessly behind with just about all of my gardening/household chores due to an illness. Everything is now crushed and in the freezer so that makes me feel great!

I've got my batteries almost up to 100%. I don't like talking about illness, as it is happening, because I find it annoying that so much of my time gets wasted so I wait until I am pretty much back to "normal". I did sorta think that my absence needed a wee bit of explaining so you'd all know I wasn't being a fickle forum friend! :)

                          Glad you're better.
But how on earth can you use up so many shinybrids? Do you include them in your breakfast cereal?
I used to try growing chillis and then realised I don't actually eat that many - only in curries and chili con carne.
But this year I've grown Padron peppers. I heartily recommend them - fried till they blister and scattered with sea salt.

I have used a darning needle and thread and threaded my chillies onto it, hung them up to dry in the kitchen, look like Christmas decoratrions and last for years, I also put mine in jars, under vinegar, to store, last for a couple of years and you end up with very hot chilli vinegar, This year I am going to make some Sweet Chilli Sauce and some Sweert and Sour Chilli Dipping Sauce. Very easy to make, cheaper than bought, no additives and tastes better, I think.
I have never grown Ring of Fire before, mine are all about 12 ins long. Great fun!
There is no room in my freezer so I have to think of alternatives.

I bake a lot of bread, rolls etc and the ones with chillies incorporated are the most popular with friends and neighbours. I make super hot pizza sauce and also flavoured oil.
