    :merry christmas:

This is the first year I've heard about them, but, the latest "craze" in the Christmas calendar seems to be:

Christmas Eve Boxes! (I kid you not! :nonofinger:)

Seems the idea behind it is (to-spend-more-money!!) for children to have something to open on Christmas Eve - ahh, bless - to ease the anticipation of waiting for Father Christmas  Reading around the subject, it seems the *one* Christmas Eve box for the child to open should contain a number of items e.g. book to read, new p.j's, maybe a letter from Father Christmas, chocolate treats ...

... no wait! Isn't that what goes in a stocking? :dunno:

I actually enjoy the Christmas celebrations for a number of reasons, but, for me ... this is taking the commercialism aspect just a step too, too far! [IMG]

I think our plans are going to be a more humble affair this year ;)

Speaking of Christmas ( which i usually hate doing until 1 December)..... I have just seen what I think is the best Christmas advert ever, no Z- list singer murdering an old classic, no flashy " buy me buy me " being forced down your throat.

It's the tale of " Kevin the carrot" from Aldi's :)

            ( OK, perhaps I'm just a big kid at heart :). )

Personally I just hate christmas, full stop.
If it was hot and sunny I might just get through it without a case of the blues.
But trying to be cheerful at the really shittiest time of the year is not something that excites me.:frown:;)

The Christmas period = cold weather/snow/no gardening/boring TV & cooking dinner for my daughter & grandaughter in a small kitchen.

Spring = planting seeds & hope for a good crop.

Summer= nice sunny day/shorts/lunch outside in a local.

No guesses which one I prefer ha!

Uh oh! I'm guilty of giving pj's and slippers on xmas eve.. not boxes though! Have seen what your on about though, there are "sellers" making up these boxes for 15 quid a pop.. contents worth around 7. :dunno:

One mother I know, gave both her kids and a step kid a present each day instead of advent calender chocs in the run up last year.. They also had a pic everyday of what they had to show off.. Was mental. And then there was xmas day..

So glad I'm not the only one to like Kevin the carrot.. so bloody cute!

But yeah.. Christmas is so commercialised these days, I don't even see nativity scene figures for sale anymore!! (Not that I'd buy them :heehee:)

Also, son is a donkey for the school play.. give me strength.
