After seeing the mention of Christmas lights elsewhere I wondered who has them and what type are they?

We always put up lights as it brightens the close I feel. We have had the same lights for years but have just bought some new blue/white icicles which look lovely. I want some lights on the conifer too but hubby :luv: says "Oh dear, the wire will have to go through the window, hmm not easy...can't do it...etc etc.
I will work on him :hehe: but will try to get a pic of the lights we have up at the moment.

Has anyone else got lights up yet? :)

We have lights in our garden all the year round. They're controlled by four switches in the lounge, (there's an armoured cable buried in the concrete raft under the patio which goes to the garage and is connected to its supply). Each switch is connected to a different double socket in a bank in the garage and the various lights are connected to different sockets, so I can "perm the combinations." One used to turn on the cascade, but we don't bother with that any more, so it's used for other lights.
We've white "fairy lights" round the eaves of the tea-house and 100 red berries on the pergola at the side of the pool. These are controlled by one of the switches.
To be honest after all that we don't often have them on! Except on warm summer evenings if we're sitting out.
Now I turn the lot on if I'm going down to the tea-house before dinner where I keep a stock of Budweisers in the fridge/freezer in there. I wish I'd remember to bring a few back during the day.

Our houses are all pretty similar in our road with arched porch doors. Many of us put fairy lights right round the arch. Some put extra lights in the windows, but no one goes "overboard."

I've red hearts, bought in B&Q, two sets at around ten quid each, about forty lights in all. They replaced the blue and white set we were sick of which we usually put up. They're on a timer set to come on at four and go off at midnight. A bit of a deterrent?

We don't have any decorations up in the house or bother with a tree, (no kids at home) but we have masses of cards to put up each year.

Our porch lights have been up since the week-end, I've not yet noticed anyone else's.

    That's fantastic rosa!

The string of large light figures reminds me of a pre-war set my grandfather gave me many years ago, they were all about four inches tall, unfortunately the wires were becoming perished and I couldn't get any replacement bulbs, I suspect they were about 15 volts each and as the bulbs went, the voltage load on the others increased if you shortened the wire, so they became quite lethal and we had to throw them away.

What fantastic pics! Doghouse you have a lovely garden, it looks so pretty :)
Rosa, I guessed you would have pretty lights up on your balcony :gnthb: I love to see lights in trees but will work on hubby.

Well your pics have made my lights look a bit uninteresting but I will get a pic hopefully later.
We do have a real tree every year and bought new holly berry lights last year [Homebase sale!] which I am pleased with. We will be away for Christmas this year but will still have a tree etc :luv: It is the first year we will be away, we both are one of four and most years have been to inlaws- 21 of us including the children so this year we are treating ourselves to something a bit different. I feel a bit bad leaving eldest son here...:D

We put the Christmas tree up last night indoors and over the next couple of days the outdoor lights will go up. We have EXTREMELY bright red berry lights for around the front door and along the front of the house (making it look like a bordello!). We also have bright white lights to drap 'artistically' through the Cordylines in the front garden in a haphazard and random manner.

Bring on the Christmas Bling I say. The original purpose of Christmas (before Jesus etc) was to bring light and energy to the darkest time of the year...we try our best here!

I have to get outside lights - We have the perfect roofline for the icicle lights - but I just don't like the price of them here! £39.99 for a string (of which I'd need about six for across the front of the house) for icicle lights?????? Holy cow! I imagine we shall break down though - too bad we can't have the kazillions of lights we have in our attic in the house in Canada......but they wouldn't be good here.
Penny - do you go chop your own tree? In BC we used to go to a tree farm and take the kids out hunting 'the perfect tree'......that's the weekend job - going and finding this year's perfect tree adn getting all the decorations out.....will have to post some pics once I get the living room done.

We used to go over near Barrie to a tree farm and chop our own, now having teenagers and one at school, the last couple years we buy one here in town already chopped, saves on time now.

Aaron it sounds lovely - bring on the bling indeed! :)

Rosa it's always lovely to see what you have done, you put so much effort into everything :thumb:

Natalie, looking forward to seeing the pics. It's a bit quieter here now the boys have grown up :D

Penny for years we used to go with my mum and dad and dig our own tree for
£5! It was always cold and one year my dad broke his spade and my mum got in a temper, oh what fun :lollol:
Well after art therapy, I walked into town, got some outdoor Pifco LED lights -hubby looked at them and said "Oh, where do you want these to go then?" so I may have a pic tomorrow!

As I said earlier, there's two sets in the garden which few people except ourselves can see and these around the front door. They're actually red but don't show up as such as the PIR on the porch light kept turning it on while I was trying to take the photo. These are enough for us.

Still not put them up. It keeps raining:mad: Hopefully over the weekend.

On the plus side, the house smells lovely with the Christmas tree. I also want to make a wreath for the door...must look up how to do that!

Very tasteful Doghouse.. :) I have to admit I don't put lights outside, but I love to see others.. :) I don't do wreathes for us anymore Aaron but I do, do large Christmas bunches for our doors.. I have just about gathered everything now, so hoping to wax my roses over the weekend & make them up.. I do enjoy these sort of things. Holly Ivy Fir Oak waxed roses, all au natural except for a little ribbon or beads, just depends ... :D This is last years..
