Clematis Montana help

    Hi all
    I just purchased a Clematis Montana and need help with what I do with it now. Do i repot it and put straight outside?

    Well not a clematis grower but I would say it would be ok to repot and leave outside.
    I seem to think Montana is one of the more rampant ones that flowers on old wood.
    But I could be totally wrong so wait for other replies. :biggrin:

    Clematis Montana, is a very vigorous grower so hopefully you have somewhere it can do it’s thing. Pete is correct this type of Clematis flowers on last years wood/stems so if you want to prune it (unlikely as you have just bought it) prune the plant immediately after it has flowered.
    As it is still early March you might be wise to keep it somewhere sheltered for a few weeks rather than immediately plant it out. It may well have been forced under cover with artificial heat. If you get hard frost the plant will not be too impressed!
    When you do get round to planting, I was always taught to plant Clematis quite deep but this really applies more to the trickier large flowering Clematis, altho it won’t do yours harm to plant deeper than it currently is.
