    Hi folks

Looking for a climber to grow on the patio, up a wooden fence, but it'll be in a pot, about 40cm diameter and 60cm deep. I do not want a clematis (got loads!) but open to any other suggestions. It will get the sun from about 11am right through until 7pm in summer.

    Any ideas?

Hmmm. Had one growing up a trellis in the border last year but it never made it through the harsh winter. Shame as it was beautiful, but I'm reluctant to try another one as it would be in a similar spot.

There are many beautiful roses that would do it for you Sussex gardener.
Or honeysuckle or a grapevine or Wisteria. It's down to what you want.

A grapevine I like the sound of, but would it be all right in a pot, for more than a couple of years?

Nothing will be all right in a pot for more than a couple of years in my opinion.

I'd just use annual climers such as Black eyed suzie or cobea may be.

Or morning glory, mina lobata, nasturtian that kind of thing.
