Sorry bit new to all this, I have brought two climbers to clim a fence panel. I ahve put string across to help them branch out...but when you plant them do you remove the stick that they have used to climb whilst in a pot and encourage them onto where you want them? or leave it in?

    Thank you

What have you actually bought Muddy?

I leave the canes in for the first year if its a clematis-they have usually wound themselves round it anyway.

You can leave it in, or take it out - but you'll then need to provide some other means of holding the plant upright - most climbers are have fairly fragile / floppy stems, so can't stand up on their own

When planting climbers always place them leaning towards the feature they are going to grow up. Don`t plant them upright. And yes, leave the cane in, for added support.:thumb:
