Climbing plants

Hi everyone,

I'm from Manchester and very new to gardening I'm looking for some evergreen climbers to combine with some spring/summer flower climbers for the front of my house.

It's south-east facing, has direct sunlight until about 3.30pm.

It's an old build so I'd like to avoid some potentially-wall-damaging climbers like ivy although I'm tempting as they're fast growing and self-clinging.

I'd like to keep the wall green all year round and have a lot of flowers during spring and summer. Properly will combine 2 types.

Do you guys have any suggestion for a suitable combination? I'm thinking rose climbers for the seasonal one.

Its common to plant Clematis with roses, usually the group 3 the later flowering group not evergreen but easy to prune and makes access to the rose easier. Could try star jasmine ( Trachelospermum jasminoides ) evergreen, flowers in the summer. You do need to put supports in for all climbers which dont make air roots like ivy or hydrangea petiolaris . Clematis armadii is evergreen but a rampant grower so I am not sure its suitable

Hi,

I am in an almost identical situation, very new to gardening, live in Suffolk and have a south-east gable wall (see attached picture).

I would also like to keep the wall green all year round and have a lot of flowers during spring and summer. Properly will combine 2 types?

I initially looked at a Viticella Clematis and a climbing rose, however the clematis isn't evergreen and i do not want the front of the house looking like a 'wirey' mess in the winter months.

Since i have looked at other evergreen clematis' but as i am quite inexperienced i don't know if these would be too vigorous to combine with a rose climber? I then started to look at other evergreen climbers such as Honeysuckle and Star Jasmine but i can't seem to find information on what flowering climbers would work well with these?

Colours to also be very pale, whites, cream and pale pinks/lavender colours.

I have weatherboarding so am not sure if i have to be overly cautious with this?

Sorry, for the essay, i have lots of overwhelming questions swirling around in my head
Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated.

What are you growing the plants in @Nicole Lane ? I can't see much soil

 

Hi, there is a patch of ground (currently covered with pebbles) under the windows, it goes out about 2 metres. I was planning on digging it up and putting the required compost etc. The ground is chalk about 400mm down.
