    Carved these out yesterday..
These will be a gift for Sis-in-law's 30th Wedding Anniversary, who liked the ones I already have.
    Cheap!...but it's the thought.... :D

[IMG] Like 'em Paladin, but if we had things like that in our garden we wouldn't have room for any plants!

Ok, confession time, I have a rather sad hobby which is also a collection of sorts.

I'm a bit of a rambler (of the walking type, although you may beg to differ) and I like to
visit as many corners of this beautiful country of ours as possible on short walking breaks or holidays when time allows.

To make it interesting, I've set myself the long term goal of trying to visit or 'bag' the
highest point of every county in England.

So far, after about 10 or 11 years, I'm nearly half way through!
It does sometimes take you to places you wouldn't normally think of visiting though and the views are (usually) worth it when you get there.

Kinder Scout in Derbyshire. A great walk with breathtaking views. A couple of photos of some of the strange rock formations to be found at the top.

Bardon Hill, Leicestershire. Again, great views all round with the added dimension of being right on the edge of a huge working quarry. (Sorry about my ugly mug spoiling the view!).

This tranquil scene is the summit of Pilot Hill, Hampshire. Not the greatest of views, but a good sky that day which contrasted nicely with the stubble field leading off into the distance.

      Sorry Trunky,

You're going to have to start again.

I think you ought to do it alphabetically.

Not really a hobby but I keep any strange looking flints dug up in the garden:

This is the loch ness monster's little little brother:

Here's the best of my collection, spot the chicken leg on the second from left, its the exact shape & size but not colour/weight!

This one is a cat (obviously):

Another one ticked off the list on my long term quest to visit the 'top' of every English county. This is the view from the top of 'Brown Willy' on Bodmin Moor, the highest point in Cornwall.

Great views, lots of rocks, a rather bracing air, and of course endless opportunities for double entendres. :heehee:

 Had to look up Batholith rock after that. Thanks for educating me Zigs. :blue thumb:

I see that there's a 'negative gravity anomaly, caused by the relatively low density of the granites' in that area.

This may explain why Mrs Trunky said she found it harder going back down the hill than she did climbing up it. I thought it was just because of her slightly dodgy knee.

Agreed. Odd to think of Granite as being light, but it is in comparison to the Basaltic rock it floats on :hate-shocked:

The Granite of the Scilly Isles, Bodmin & Dartmoor are all part of the same lump. The roots of a mountain range that was as big as the Himalayas are now.

                Cream teas & Yeties anyone?

                    Not sure yet Loli.

I'm hoping to get away for a short walking break in the Malvern Hills at the end of next month, so I might get a chance to 'bag' the Worcestershire top while I'm there. :)

Thanks Sheal. I'm slowly working my way through a list of 37 English counties. Done 19 so far, so just over half way through. :phew:
