They certainly seem to be scrabbling around for 'news'. It 'may' be bright and there's over a year to go!

I don't think I'll wait outside with my camera! :heehee:

"Even outshining the moon". But at what phase of the moon, full, gibbous or new.

I feel we should be told! :blue thumb:

          Cheers, Tony.

Yeah, me too. The last decent lump of rock from the sky was sold for an incredible amount of money, like in the millions.
And just a minor point, nowhere in the Bible does it say how many wise men there actually where. Three is assumed because they brought three gifts.
I saw the best view of the Hale-Bopp one, driving down the A5/483 from Wrexham towards Chirk one evening. Pity I had no camera in those days.

And does anyone know the name of this amazingly bright object, by the way?

            Comet 2012 S1 (ISON)

If you want the "friendly" name [of the Finders] then that's hard to pronounce ... couple of Russian astronomers!

Full Moon ... and some :)

But ... trouble is ... it will come in at an angle that puts it very low in the sky, so although it is predicted to hit Magnitude -13 to -16 that will be below the horizon, and it is only predicted to be +2 at the point (20-Nov) at which it becomes too low to view in the evening sky and then, having gone around the Sun, it is predicted to be +1 on the outbound once visible again around 20-Dec

Here are the predicted Magnitude figures that I found:

17Oct +7 - Naked eye extremely dark skies (140 miles from a major city)
27Oct +6 - Naked eye very dark skies, binoculars from suburban, same as Uranus
06Nov +5 - Naked eye dark skies, same as Jupiter moons
11Nov +4 - Naked eye outer suburbs, Binoculars suburban
16Nov +3 - Naked eye surburbs, Binoculars bright, urban areas
            19Nov +2 - stars of Plough, Halley's comet in 1986
            Below horizon :(
            22Nov +1 - planet Saturn
24Nov 0 - Naked eye unless near very bright lights
            25Nov -1 - Sirius (brightest star), comet Hale-Bopp in 1995
            26Nov -2 - planet Jupiter
28Nov -13 - full moon! But it will be too near Sun for viewing
            04Dec -3
            06Dec 0
            08Dec +1
            16Dec +2
            Above horizon again :)
            26Dec +3
