    Thanks for the update

I still think it’s a weeping ash , time will tell.

Many thanks @shiney, I will upload more pictures as it hopefully gets new growth. For now, here's a pic that shows how the branches hang. IMG_4377.jpg
Maybe it's a willow, not a corkscrew willow?

I think that the first picture is promising. Even before seeing it, I was going to suggest giving it more time. Some plants are a bit slower. For instance, while most of my deciduous trees are in the process of growing leaves, my hazel is still snoozing - and I know that this is normal. The signs of life are very small, but they're there.

Thank you @Spruce - I've just looked up Weeping Ash and it does look very similar!

I uploaded the photos to Gemini (Google's AI engine) and it suggested that it is a weeping ash tree, it just wasn't completely sure about the variant from the photos. Of course AI isn't always right, but it's another nudge in that direction.

I would not be suprised if gemini found this thread, read the comments, then told you that it was a weeping ash as per a members suggestion...
I have seen it do this with reddit threads before!

I think it's never a good idea to take what they say as definitely correct.. They are often a useful starting point, but then you need to confirm the information because their sources might be unreliable, as you have pointed out! On this occasion, there was a detailed explanation around the growth habit and foliage.

(Having said that, I have found Gemini to be far more reliable than ChatGPT. I consider the latter to be a waste of time, not even worth using as a starting point.)
