Hooray ... hairdresser contacted yesterday and asked when we want appointment, so we have one for the 12th. Wasn't a problem when I had long hair but now need regular appointment. One step in the right direction.

Some "good news" quotes from here ...

"As of 00:01 3 May, Portugal will cease to be in a ´State of Emergency´ and will instead enter a reduced ´State of Calamity´ – this may to the English-speaking world seem to be a worst phrase but it is a reduction of the state and measures that need to be applied."

"This weekend is an especial case and there are emergency movement restrictions between 00:01hrs on 1 May until 23:59hrs on 3 May the same as were in force over the Easter period. This means that only essential travel and movement must take place and everyone in the population may not move outside of their municipality of residence."

I just love it ... a "State Of Calamity" ... they do have a way with words here. :rolleyespink:

Absolutely wonderful, they have resumed fertility treatment.:hapfeet:
And we are supposed to be taking this seriously, and that is the GOOD news today from the briefing.
Its just getting stupid the whole thing is a farce.

If they cant come up with any better news than that, dont bloody bother.

I can only assume this is to make up for all the people who are dying.

Good evening well I have just had a pizza delivery man at my door(wrong address) I haven't been out for almost 7 weeks, just the once to visit some bluebells, what is it with people wanting Pizzas delivered is that essential:smile:

@Pete,It might not seem good news to you my friend but it is to thousands of couples, sorry we will have to agree to disagree, its a start, There's lots of good news if only you chose to see it;):blue thumb:

Thousands of couples may have missed their last chance of conceiving via IVF as fertility clinics shut their doors to patients . Some women who are only just young enough to be eligible for treatment will be too old in a few months’ time.

There are people dying of cancer, people in pain waiting for all kinds of operations that have been shelved because they have been concentrating on CV, and then he comes out with this revelation.

The question was asked today by a member of the public, will they keep some of the new NHS capacity in order to sort out the very long NHS waiting lists.

The answer was a very roundabout, NO.

So they can spend money at times like this, but when it comes to normal times no way.

I'm not getting angry, I've been angry with the NHS for the last 40 yrs, it diabolical, but that's not blaming the people who work for it, its the way it is run in normal times.

Sadly I'm agreeing with Pete, fertility treatments fall lower on my personal view of prioritising plans. "Sadly", using the word because I have close friends whose lives have been devastated with problems in having a family.

Life saving and improving care must continue, but how can that happen if the NHS staff can't even dream of taking a day off or having a week off work? They need to be able to live normal lives, this situation is keeping them on call day after day after week after month. It's just too much for them.

At the moment my friends have been able to keep their appointments for other ailments and have been receiving the same excellent care as before. Minor stuff such as routine follow ups have been moved to online consultation which is great, may that continue.

I have been telling my dentist that I really don't need to come in for a check up every 6 months as there are no problems, perhaps this situation will let us learn what face-to-face appointments could be done online and what can't.

Keep a look out for our one - he looks like me and took over when I retired.

Our village is still very quiet although we have a few places open. The village shop (co-op) is open from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. and keeps a strict control on entry. Only three people allowed in and the aisles are all one way with 2 metre markings. Village baker open fewer hours but only two allowed in at a time. Fish and chip shop only one allowed in at a time. Two take-aways and two restaurants only doing take-aways or deliveries with no more than one person inside at a time. Queuing (very little) is well spaced out and usually much more than two metres. Anybody walking keeps well away from each other.

I didn't see a soul on my one mile each way walk to the surgery to post our prescriptions - but it was 1 a.m. :heehee:

If we think back pre-covid-19. HM Gov and the media were spouting on about the NHS. There is no escaping the fact, the NHS is truly a fantastic organisation. In the UK. If you need medical treatment to whatever level, then you probably will get it. Rich man, poor man alike.

For a long time now, fears have been directed asto the vulnerability of the service and it's threatened failure. Now due much to the panic of the covid-19 penemic, it is like the proverbial cat being thrown in with chickens. Basically this has caused so much confusion. The call for, all hands to the pumps went out and the system becomes overloaded. It could be said that mankind as at present, has never experienced such a problem. This has meant that we have had to learn as we go. At the moment advice re; social distancing etc is probably the wisest bit of advice. Sorry but I haven't got much time for the, 'chancers' who want to do it their way.
