Just a thought, but when the official figures for the death rate from flu this winter come out, it could turn out to be the best year ever regarding the success of the flu vaccine.;):biggrin::biggrin:

Or it could be that there's been less infected with flu because we're all wearing face masks...well most of us.

A friend's husband has several chest health issues and this is the first year in a long while he hasn't caught any nasty bugs. It's because of not meeting people and social distancing as well as masks.

I agree with @Sheal that the face masks have a bonus side effect. Helping to stop transmissin of the flu as well.

I had to tell a cashier to sanitize her hands today. She had done it moments before but as I was packing the groceries I had purchased, she turned her back to her current customer just as he lowered his mask to lick his fingers to peel money from his roll of bills. And then he handed them to her. She didn't see the lick happen so I clued her in. What a stupid, ignoramus that guy was!

Its something that would have been quite normal a year ago and you wouldn't have given it a second thought.

Its going to be a strange old, mask wearing, paranoid world, when this is all over.

Forgive me please if this is out of line. I do not wish to make lots our of my present health situation but I need to mention this experience, which I consider a security risk.

On my emergency return to hospital. Having been attended to in A&E I was moved to another part of the ward. I was awoken by the noise of shouting etc. A Scots guy had come in along with his mates. Time passed. Scotty an obvious body beutiful guy. In short. We all had ro listen to his foul language, mobile phone chats etc. His mate wandered in and out like co-owners of the place. He boasted he was tough. The phlebotomist said otherwise. This tough guy was s... scared of needles and told her to f... off. His friends continued to breeze in and out, no mask, no respect. One mate talked a lot about buy and selling. Scooty vanishes, then returns with his xmas shopping. So he'd been shopping.

So here we have a hospital. I had four Covid swab test done here. This bloke is wandering around like lord of the manor.

                    You are allowed your say.

Conversely, having to wear masks on the odd occasion was able to escape has caused me no end of trouble - my lung function has been shot to bits by all of this.

If everyone is vaccinated, we won't need to worry (or wear masks)

Not quite :noidea: You're certainly right that the licking of fingers to separate money, turn pages of books and newspapers etc. has been extremely common and an unconscious habit for as long as I can remember but I, and some others, did give it a second thought.

Some of you know that I run some bridge clubs (now online and missing a lot of the social side of it ) and we could have 60-100 people playing at one time. Two years ago we banned the licking of fingers (used a lot to separate the cards in their hands) and it was surprisingly difficult for people to get out of the habit. It was amazing how many people didn't even realise they were doing it. Nobody objected to the rule being brought in.

We also brought in a rule that the mouth had to be covered when coughing and sneezing and hands washed immediately. Most people already sneezed into a tissue or hand but it was surprising how many people cough without covering their mouth. The clubs were the most popular and busiest in a 20 mile radius.

Bearing in mind that a lot of members were between 70 and 100 years old (not so many at the upper end) it was considered a possible way of reducing the transmission of flu, coughs and colds. We hadn't been doing it long enough to see whether it actually had any effect.
