On the news this morning I heard that a Scottish pharmaceutical company have a vaccine developed and in its later stages. I can't find any info on this though.

I've never thought to look on Facebook and was very surprised my surgery is on there. Sadly they have only posted 3 messages in 12 months, and not about covid. It did direct me to their own website which just says not to contact them regarding the vaccinations, plus the standard covid advice.
In Guildford they are preparing a civic theatre as a vaccination centre, signs are going up on local roads with directions. I get the feeling we will be bypassing the surgeries in favour of bigger venues. I am happy to wait and see rather than pestering them for information, which would only distract and slow them down.

John, it wasn't so much the surgery said on their page it was what patients were saying, and looking again the comments have forced a response from the surgery.
And there appears to be things moving now.

I'm prepared to wait as well it was more to do with getting information, as the place I use is on it's knees even in normal times.

One of our friends got her first vaccination a couple of weeks ago, so it is definitely happening around us.

John its happening around here also, but it appears your docs surgery has to put your name forward.
That was not happening at my place they were just umming and ahrring, presumably hoping it would all blow over, like they do with most things.;)

To be honest with you, I was a bit annoyed and perplexed that my Surgery, on their previous attempts to contact me by landline, to offer me the Jab didn't leave a message to tell me that they were offering the Jab. All I got was an incoherent message, not even identifying themselves, saying "we'll call you back". So, if I hadn't been curious as to who had rung and done a 1471 I might have missed the offer.:wallbanging::doh:

                      1. It's very good at our surgery generally but like all establishments they have issues over knowing much about the vaccines..First the normal flu jab.they said yes there is a shortage but try other villages..we drove over to a few and it was only one that took our names to go on a list to be phoned if there happens to get any stock in...truth was there was none in France back in November :wallbanging: but right now it would be good to know about the Covid19 jabs should be a priority surely..red tape and safety 1st apparently(as usual). Easy to get through on the phone and email to the Doctor, he is happy for me to do that when important.
                      2. Not sure how I got those numbers..is it a test now No.2...:dunno:was just going to say to Armandi that is a real bad thing to happen..Our phone records the people who phone us...

Below is the Facebook blurb from my local surgery.
So they will contact you for an injection at a local centre.
or NHS England will send an invite to book an appointment at one of the national mass vaccination centres - in my case the Man City ground.
I would not fancy driving to the far side of Manchester and queuing for hours possibly, so will wait for a local appointment.
As soon as we have confirmation of vaccine delivery we will be contacting more of our patients aged 80 and over to invite them for their first dose.
We understand how much people want to be vaccinated or to have their loved one vaccinated but, at this moment in time we cannot give you a definite date or timescale. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE SURGERY AS WE WILL CONTACT YOU WHEN WE CAN OFFER YOU AN APPOINTMENT.
Letters have also been sent out to patients aged 80 and over from NHS England, inviting patients to ring to book an appointment at one of the recently opened mass vaccination sites – the nearest one to us is the Etihad Tennis Centre or a site in Widnes. If you are able to travel please take up the offer of an appointment at one of these sites as we are unable to give you any idea when we can offer you one at our local vaccination sites.

The local page on facebook shows loads of oldies turning up at a centre that was doing jabs today.
Apparently they all had appointment times but spent ages queuing in freezing rain because they were all turning up early and totally blocking the car parking.

What is the matter with people?

This is on my local surgery :dunno:

Practices in Strood have been working with the CCG to identify a suitable site. Unfortunately, this has taken longer than anticipated due to the strict size, layout and accessibility site requirements for the super cooled Pfizer vaccine which rules out local facilities in Strood. Please be assured the matter has been raised to the highest level. Roll out of the refrigerated Astra-Zeneca vaccine will begin locally in due course. Further updates will be given when available. We are confident that a timely resolution will be reached.

A service for the Strood and Medway Peninsula areas is in the final planning stages. Subject to final approval a site in Halling is expected to open in the week of 18-24 January (exact date of first vaccinations to be confirmed).
