Very sad. Money taking precedence over saving lives. Astra Zeneca 'know how' is free to the world and being made every where.

I also see that Pfizer and Moderna have jacked up their prices to the EU.

Campaigners claimed the EU had overpaid for its supplies of Covid-19 vaccines by almost €33bn and the global vaccination drive could happen much faster if the pharma companies agreed to share their knowhow.

There seems to be conflicting reports on the above. We are now told masks and distancing are still a legal requirement in shops and confined spaces. All other restrictions seem to have been lifted.....if the reports are right. :th scifD36:

I dont think its the first time conflicting information, regarding covid, has been given out.
Restrictions wont end until we dont have to wear masks.

Neil Olivers just a desperate older attention seeker nowadays. His coast days are well behind him and sees himself as a Scottish version of Nigel Farage.

I always wear a mask double skin and filter in shops and sometimes in crowded areas...........but I can still smell a smoker when passing ,I suspect we are actually wearing it to prevent passing it on.
Having said that I do feel safer when wearing one.
We were also at Wimbledon which has proven to be a non COVID super spreader even though hardly anyone wore a mask ,so double jabbing is pretty successful ,it was a pre requisite to gaining entry.

I can smell a smoker from up to 7ft away (!) since I stopped last July and they don't even have to be smoking, it's amazing how sensitised your nose gets to it. I used to tease non-smokers and always think they were exaggerating!

The masks will stop particles, but a charcoal filter would be needed to absorb smells be that BO, Alcohol or cigarette smokers.
Congratulations, although I think smoking damaged your sense of smell if you have to get within 7ft. I can be quite a bit further away than that and pick it up, always liked pipe smoke though.

Many years ago I used to smoke hamlet small cigars.
Often I'd light one and you could see the tar oozing out the end, at the time I just thought it gave the smoke more flavour, I had the usual 70s moustache back then:biggrin: and it used to go dark brown with the nicotine and tar.

Strange thing is I didn't think anything of it back then, just used to cough my way through it.

I used to really enjoy smoking, but managed to kick it in the early 90s.

I can smell a heavy smoker's house walking past on the other side of the road.

I'm pretty certain it did after nearly 30 years at it Nigel, just hoping it's not permanent. My nasal sensitivity to smokers seems to be constantly but very gradually increasing, so I'm optimistic. :)

I intended to actually continue to enjoy the occasional cigar when I first decided to stop, which is something I only do 5-6 times a year, but the fact is I just don't fancy it anymore. :dunno:

@Nikolaos I smoked for years and quit over 20 years ago.
But it only took me a few years to get back to square one. I can smell a cigarette smoker from 10 cars away if they are puffing whilst we're all in a traffic jam.

I never had that morning coughing or anything like that. I guess I wasn't a very efficient smoker.

The one thing I refuse to do is be a militant ex smoker. I wish people didn't smoke but I remember how hard it was to quit.

Of course I won't allow any smoking in my home but I have ashtrays in my back yard and let people use the one little greenhouse as shelter to have a smoke in if it is raining. There are folding chairs out there if they need it too. I even have a jar of lighters out there for them in case theirs runs out of fuel. Why not? They'd need the toaster if I didn't have those available :heehee:

In my heart, I feel it is not enabling their addiction in any way, just accommodating a guest. There is no way they came to visit me so as to quit smoking during the visit and forever after, so I see no point in being mean and petty.

If I am outside with them, I just make sure to stand up wind. As I say, they didn't come to my place to be treated badly or forced to quit that instant, they came to visit me :)

And of the people I know who also smoke, they've had both jabs. So at least smoking is their only stupid habit.

In my region the rate of infection has gone up quite a bit. The powers that be loosened up restrictions some but I do see a lot of what others have mentioned. People not wearing their masks or not wearing them properly. Sloppy response to be given a little bit of "freedom"!

I've never smoked, so I'm not in a position to come to a view either way on smoking. But, if I were pressed I'd have to say that everyone is entitled to make their own decision as to whether they want to smoke - they know the risks. I remember when I was in school and we were all shoved into the theatre and shown a video about the risks of smoking - it traumatised the lot of us. Smoking - a dangerous past time when there is Covid-19 around - smokers lungs already have enough to deal with.

I see that we have now double jabbed 75% of adults throughout the UK and that hospital admissions appear to be going down - lets see what happens when the schools go back - nothing hopefully.

The good news is that the heart and lungs begin to improve from a short time after you stop.
