There is no legal requirement, at the moment, to have been vaccinated prior to an op.

Ok I wasn't sure, but they did ask if I was fully jabbed so kind of got that impression.

I shall have my covid booster and flu vaccination. Yes there is a tiny risk of a bad reaction but a much bigger risk of becoming seriously unwell if unprotected. I want to lead a normal life, not shut away to keep clear of others.

The booster won't affect me because I don't quite qualify.

But I think everything is a balance of risks. Having recently had covid, I'm convinced that the three jabs I've had so far did absolutely nothing to help in my individual case. Sure I didn't become seriously ill, but the latest studies say Omicron is a less severe disease than the original, and it attacks higher up in the respiratory tract where it's less likely to cause catastrophic lung damage. So did I get off relatively lightly because of the vaccine, or because it's a milder disease? Well given that studies show that the vaccine is far less effective against the newer variants, I'm betting on the latter.

Would I have another booster if offered? No. But I would not advise anyone else one way or the other. There is a small, miniscule risk of complications from the vaccine itself. That risk would be worth taking if I believed the vaccine was effective, but when even the boffins are saying it is of limited benefit, I don't see the point. Now if they offered a booster that was tailored to the current variants, I'd be straight on the booking website.

Risking it a bit here:biggrin:, but I'm yet to catch covid and also yet to catch flu.
How people manage to catch these things multiple times is beyond me.
I'm obviously doing something wrong, but never been a hugger of people, just a simple goodbye has always been enough for me.
I still maintain you catch this kind of stuff from family and not outside.

Months ago, both my kids got it. The wife and I fully expected we'd catch it off them. We tested regularly, always negative and no symptoms. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, kids are fine, but wife catches it, then me.

Limited benefit - not NO benefit.
I too have managed to get to 74 years of age without ever catching the flu and I too am not a hugger.

I shall have the booster this autumn also the flu jab available through work. True will not prevent infection, but reduces severity of disease.
Flu is predicted to be a problem this winter.
              What's a hug?

Like I said, balance of risks. A vaccine that itself carries a tiny risk but is of limited benefit against another tiny risk.

Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely in favour of vaccines in general, including the covid vaccine which may well have played a key role in almost eliminating the original strain of covid. I just don't see the point of taking more of that same vaccine now that nobody is going to catch the disease it vaccinates against. A booster tailored for Omicron would be much more worthwhile. The boffins have said they can make one, but they've not been asked to do so which is madness.

The vast majority of people will have had covid by now - many will be unaware that they have had it. They were either protected by the jab or their non jab immune system could fight it off.

Everyone already has immunity - which is getting stronger every time they are infected - this was the whole point of jabbing everyone and then letting it rip through the jabbed population Further jabs will have little impact.

Government should be spending their time pushing the flu vaccine - it is the flu that is going to be knocking people out this Winter - not covid.

My son-in-law has had Delta once and Omicron three times. The last dose of Omicron was as bad as the Delta and nearly saw him hospitalised.

Well I'm pretty sure I haven't had it, I'm sure I would have remembered, had two colds since this lot started and both times assumed it was covid but tests said negative.

I dont mix with lots of people close up, some people have to if their job involves that I assume those are the ones that keep getting it.

I'm certain I haven't had it, nor have my immediate family. I was talking this very thing over with some friends who I occasionally meet in a pub, none of them have had it. We are all a similar age and have similar habits. Careful who we meet, shop for everything online and retired. There is supposedly a study into why my group have remained clear, obviously limited social mixing is a big factor but life isn't much different for me now to what it was before. I was never one for shopping or crowded places. We look after grandchildren but only when they test clear. We don't hug and kiss friends and if I bump into someone unexpectedly it's outside and I keep my distance.

I hear about the same people catching it several times who are the ones making up the numbers.

Yes, my sons and their families got it once, mildly and not again. One parent in each family has no choice but to be around people in order to do their job so that is probably why just once. I they stayed away from me when they had it.

Some people get it but don't know. My youngest son got it around the same time as my wife. We didn't know because he just had the mildest hay fever symptoms. We only tested him because the wife tested positive so we wondered if his hat fever was actually hay fever.
