Courgette fruits not growing?

I've grown courgettes before but not for maybe five years or more.

This year I'm hand pollinating them as usual with a small, soft paintbrush.

Have only had four females so far (plenty of males) spread across over twenty plants in various locations (full sun and partial shade, locations where they have been grown a few years ago). The plants look healthy enough and are of a good size but despite my hand pollination the fruits aren't growing (it's been four days since I hand pollinated the most recent one, each are only about the size of a small index finger). They are of various varieties and the pollen has been taken from whatever happens to be flowering, even a different variety.

Any ideas why the fruits aren't growing please? The obvious answer is that they're not pollinated but the fruits look healthy, no signs of rot at the tip, they just aren't growing.

 

They are usually slow to start, even if you hand pollenate.
Not sure if you're getting the dismal weather I am but nothing is growing here for over a week now.

I'm sure they will sort them selves out, the plants seem to go through a stage where they are still not ready to produce fruit even though they are starting to form.
It's early yet, lots of people will only just be planting out this kind of stuff now.

 

Sounds normal to me. They start tiny and seem to do very little for a while, then just suddenly grow when they're ready.

I presume conditions are all good? Fed and watered and what not?

I think this early on, the plants will still be building up strength, focusing their energy on laying down roots and building up foliage more than fruit production.

 

Thanks both of you for the advice. I'm lucky that in my part of the UK I've had wall to wall sunshine for quite some time. Temps aren't terribly high, maybe 19 or 20C at best, but good enough.

Yup, all watered.

Should I be feeding them any kind of fertilizer?

 

I should point out that although daytime temperatures are ok, it’s still been cold at night.

 

I used to give mine miracle grow, but last year switch to tomarite. It's hardly scientific because I grew different ones in different places to usual but I got a better crop after switching to tomarite. I generally feed once a week.

 

I rarely feed stuff in the ground, maybe a handful of growmore or chicken pellets a couple of times during the growing season, watered in.

I only liquid feed pot grown stuff regularly.
