I've decided to plant some crocus in a pot to get a decent display for the front of the house, but I know that crocus are best left in the ground from one year to the next. Would they be all right if I "lifted" them after they had died down as I'd rather use the pot for something else later in the year, or do I need to leave them and tuck the pot away somewhere inconspicuous?

    Aye.. they are tough!

If you want them in pots, I'd buy new stock every year... they aren't expensive....and after they finish flowering, but before the leaves die back.. pop them in the garden

    Try Crocus tommasinianus!

Nice one. I don't want to lose them after the first season but have a couple of lovely terracotta pots that they'll good in. Thanks

Hi Aaron. I agree, also making sure that you keep them in the compost, so as not to disturb them.

    Cheers...freddy.

Thanks. The pots I have them are the classic shape, wide at top, narrower at bottom so there should be minimal disturbance when I come to plant them out.

Just got to think where in the garden I'll plant them out in Spring...!

The joy of putting them out then.. is you can see where you need them in spring!.. Try remembering where the gaps are when you plant in autumn is impossible

    Tell me about it!

Except for the dormant perennials of course, although most of them should be making some sort of an appearance by that time. I usually forget where they all are...
