Perhaps we like the challenge @fairygirl.

I don't like lilies so no problem with the beetles.

    Challenging indeed @Sheal !
I have a slight love/hate relationship with lilies. They remind me of the birth of my older daughter, but I also dislike the smell now, so I'd rather have ones which have no scent. I know...weird...

I don't know how bad the lily beetles are becoming up here though. I often wonder why I have them - if those beetles don't get them, it's slugs - or just soil being too wet and they rot. I have most of them in pots for that reason. Must ask my sister if she grows them, but I don't think she does.

Lillies last about 2 minutes here because of the beetle so I don't grow them anymore

Has anyone tried Diascia cuttings in water? Or would you recommend another way? I have Diascia 'Blue Bonnet' and want more!

I always do Salvia (including culinary sage) in water, and have had lots of success with Vietnamese coriander (Persicaria odorata) and other Persicaria, Stachys, hardy Fuchsia etc. I am just trying Ballota but nothing happening yet.

Just another for the list, cobaea scandens seems to root in one-two weeks in water but it's also rooted in a perlite/compost mix in the same period of time.

The Cotoneaster 'Berried Treasure' cuttings have now been in water two months and showing no signs of rooting. The cuttings still look healthy so I've potted them today to see if soil makes a difference.

I gave up on my Clematis Julia Correvan cutting in water, still looking perky so have put it in pot to see if it will do anything. Probably wasn’t best time of year for a cutting but it was a bit that broke off. Will try again later in the summer.

I am just trying a rosemary cutting in water as I have never been successful getting these to take in a pot. Roughly how long will it be before some roots appear?

Shouldn't be too long, maybe a few weeks

Erythrina bidwillii (@pete). A bit of a cheat, though, as they were shoots pulled from the rootstock, so raring to go! I'm trying to kill it off by burying it and planting stuff on top :redface:Unprofessional, I know, but there no way I'm ever going to be able to dig out the caudex and roots....
Just had to do a few cuttings, though, just in case it succeeds

Yes, the cuttings you sent me were rooted in water, Erythrina crista-galli roots in water as well. I'm still waiting for decent flowers on my E. bidwillii but they are in pots.

After 2 months sat in a glass jar of water, one of my budleja globosa cuttings has finally begun to root
