Looking to get a couple of roses for tubs for beside front door - main problem though is wind. Anybody recommend any specific rose that will hang onto it's petals in a north wind? Not too exposed here, it's a wee cul de sac and the wind always comes on that side of the house.

If it's not windy all the time them most roses will survive. A north wind suggests that is the direction your front door faces, so will they get enough sun in that situation? Floribunda roses are probably the hardiest shrubs so worthwhile looking for those.

Personally I find David Austin roses over rated and expensive and have bought many of my roses in the past from Cants Roses – Rose Specialists in Colchester, Essex. If you don't wish to buy from them it's a nice website to look around and see what catches your eye. :)

That looks a good site ty !! I just go to DA because I know they have loads of roses and the stuff I've bought is always good, but I'm not fixated on them, and it's good to have other sites too drool over. The front door faces west, the wind sweeps down sideways - if that makes sense. Our front gets sun all afternoon well into the evenig.
Is that a Gyr falcon in your wee avatar? My youger son is a falconer , too busy with work now but spent his youth at the Scottish Academy of Falconry and will get himself a bird when work eases off.

The roses I have bought from Cant's have always been healthy and well packaged. The only drawback, as with most nurseries, is the extra cost of delivering here to Scotland, especially the Highlands. If you buy them bare root later in the year they will be cheaper.

As long as the wind isn't constant the roses should be fine.

Yes, it is a Gyrfalcon and a beautiful bird. :) I took the image at Dunrobin Castle where a falconer puts on a display twice a day with various birds of prey. Post #305 on the link below.

That must have been a wonderful experience for your son. :)
