:( Oh dear, sorry Pete, we love ours ... were they oven ones? ... perhaps you can fry them in a frying pan? We go to a Scottish restaurant here occasionally (Kilt & Kelt) and they make humongous home-made ones in beer batter ... I would try them in a fryer pan but not have the mess in my deep fryer.

Veggies lose quite a lot of their taste when they are frozen!! :(

I think they just contained onion powder, there was no actual onion involved, just some kind of slurry inside a crispy coating.

    Typical Morrisons rubbish.

Shame, the Sainsbury's ones we get have onion in them. I know that, because if you don't slice through the breadcrumbs properly, you get the stringy onion!

    S0. I don't like chips. I thought I might be missing something.
I don't like fruit fritters tasting of fish or pakora.
Should I just skip the deep fat fryer ?

Thank you Gemini. It's about what I thought before I asked - but, the world does move on and I don't want to be missing out on anything.
But if its same old, same old - I'll give it a skip.

Sent off for some seeds from the Bakker catalogue that had the offer of a deep fat fryer if you spend over £20 or such like, seeds arrived with a cheap saucepan & a chip basket.

Im still using the chip basket, but with a big steel saucepan. I do alsorts, from breaded whitebait to doughnuts & seaweed in it.

When I need to change the oil, I put the papier maché bricks, that I make from recycled paper during the summer, in it. They soak up the old oil & heat the house via the woodburner.

    Just a thought,

If they use real onion, what happens to the centre pieces of the onion, I mean you have to remove the centre part otherwise it would be an onion disc.:)

You dont suppose Morrisons buy all the middle bits, grind them down to powder, mix it with flour and water and reshape them back into rings, do you?:D

Well that sounds fascinating Ziggy. One of the things I hate about deep fat frying is the smell it makes and the job of changing the oil and what to do with it. Will newspapers solve the whole problem. I'm trying to picture the newspaper briquette soaking up the oil - and I can see them on the fire - well the bonfire maybe :D In my woodburner - i think I would have to dial 999 before thinking about it. I don't have an asbestos roof.

Had a look and think I get the drift Ziggy.
I'm very conservative (with a small c) and I think I'll hang on to my roof.
