    No, not a symptom of sunburn I think.
    Im referring to the white/grey splashes too not the red coloured wood which is normal. I assume those "smudges" occurred over winter early spring!
    An alcohol based treatment should not do any damage.
    Perhaps others can add their views here....
    An afterthought......do small birds perch there ? Droppings perhaps? :)
