          I don't know anything about keeping cacti, do you need heating? I guess ventilation is just as important in the autumn?

            Very smart job and a personal favourite cost!
            I discovered a couple of cactus plant in our greenhouse when we moved in. Most of the glass was missing so they don't seem too bothered by winter here.

              @JWK thanks, That’s only part of my collection :) , not using heating at moment as the temperature is still warm enough, but as it gets colder I use a eltex paraffin heater and some I cover with fleece, I do use a fan during really hot days to circulate the air, but during autumn I just rely on auto window vents and leaving the door ajar.A lot of them are hardy so they’ll manage ok through winter, but the tender ones end up in doors until spring. Seems to work ok for me.

                @Loofah Thanks, yes it’s surprising some cactus seem to tolerate the cold of winter :thumbsup:

                  Looks a super collection you have there :smile:

                  In a well insulated greenhouse find using a small electric fan heater on the 1kw and frost free settings quiet economical, perhaps easier and even cheaper than a paraffin heater ?

                    @ricky101
                    Thanks Ricky, to be honest I’ve been thinking about going electric, paraffin prices have risen lately, thanks for the info I’ll certainly give it a try, auction site here I go :thumbsup:

                      I gave up with paraffin heaters because of the extra humidity they create, plus they are not as flexible as electric, unless the Eltex have thermostats. I was keeping tender ornamentals ticking over during winter, such as fuchsias.

                        @JWK no there’s no thermostat on mine, and Ricky mentioned a fan heater, so if I can persuade the wife, I think I’ll go down the electric route :)

                          Nice tidy greenhouse, just wish mine looked that tidy, electric for me, gave up paraffin about 30yrs ago, to messy, and it stinks, to name just two of its problems.
                          A good heater and a separate thermostat, not the one on the heater, last for years and apart from when we get power cuts:mute:, reliable.

                          I over winter some cacti in my cold frame, it just gets bubble wrap pulled over the top on frosty nights, spent a full week with 4 ins of snow on top last feb.

                            @pete yes Pete going electric, your right about the mess and smell etc.
                            As you say some cacti don’t seem to mind the winter , and bubblewrap is great for installation , thanks also for the advice on the thermostat :thumbsup:
