No, that was Phil Harris. The album was "That's What I Like About The South" (released in 1958)and the song is "Woodman, Spare That Tree". I know because I have it in front of me as I type!! The album also includes "The Darktown Poker Club", "The Deck Of Card" and "Muskrat Ramble"!

Spike Jones did 'Serutan Yob' (Nature Boy -backwards!) and 'Hawaiian War Chant' didn't he?

Michaelmas Daisy - you've just plunged me straight back into my childhood. My father had "Woodman spare that tree" on LP (78 style) - "woodman spare that tree, chop not a single chop" - my imagination has a lovely picture of Phil Harris doing his "imitation of a bird" to get away from his wife - and of course the Darktown Poke Club.

Can you buy it still, cos I would love to have to own that record.

I think it was Stan Freberg who did the "Banana Boat Song" comedy routine.

Spike Jones did a version of "Yes We Have No Bananas"
