I am successfully growing courgettes but a couple of them have been munched on.

At first I thought it was slugs but they appear to have teeth marks in and one has been munched a bit too much to suspect slugs.

A friend said it could be mice and I suspected birds but I have never seen mice in the garden and the birds don't tend to go anywhere but the fence. I have seen a hedgehog knocking about the area but never near my garden.

The other culprit is my cat, which does eat some of the lighter grass and weeds.

Has anyone seen a cat eating courgette?

Never seen that, cats would leave a very obvious mark with their sharp teeth, mice do nibble courgettes and the resulting bit mark would be very different.

Maybe the cat was just testing?

I would imagine a fox would eat more in one sitting.

Looks like I'll have to set up a camera to catch the culprit.

            OK so I was wrong.

Sat on the back porch with my shotgun and a beer (or two) and have now caught 35 slugs and 4 snails.

One of the slugs was the biggest I have ever seen.

The marks they left look like tooth marks. I guess there were that many and some of which were pretty big.

                Now 48 slugs.

Which will run out first, the slugs or the beer?

Luckily I have homebrewed Elderflower Champagne to keep me going.

I used to have a cat (Bless you Nico) that used to adore eating cucumber and mushrooms. We had to go around the garden (and get our neighbours to go around theirs too) to pull up all the mushrooms that grew in the lawn. It's not good having a cat who thinks he's supercatman after consuming the naughty mushrooms! file000480.jpg
