They are just a land dwelling shrimp, and you eat fish don't you? (though granted, probably not raw).

On a more serious note, since Bill Odie explained how they do no harm and only eat rotten wood, I don`t mind them either, in fact a lot of insects etc don`t worry me anymore, after watching Spring/Autumn watch and the like, the only thing I will not touch still are slugs, can`t get over my dislike of them.:blue thumb:

Yes but after they've mined out a rotten channel in the wood, air and moisture get in to accelerate the rotting on the rest of the wood. Probably they don't actually harm wood that isn't rotting already, but they can greatly accelerate the process once its started. They are after all in the group of 'primary decomposers', the group of organisms that break down wood into the next stage (poo) ready for secondary decomposers to (mostly bacteria) to get it down to its mineral state ready for plants to eat it:)

An old true "RAF" tale........while serving out in Aden [Never, ever, go there:nonofinger::heehee:] at RAF Khormaksar the usual breakfast was Weetabix and tinned milk [watered down]. We'd put the Weetabix in the bowl, pour on the milk.........and wait. After nearly a minute up would come floating the Weevils doing several styles of swimming and we'd assist them out of the milk with a spoon. I'm pretty sure we didn't get them all floating to the surface.......but when you're hungry!!:hate-shocked::dunno::snork:

Extract from the entry in Wikipedia:

Despite being crustaceans like lobsters or crabs, woodlice are said to have an unpleasant taste similar to "strong urine"

To know that they must have both eaten woodlice and drunk strong urine.
